Authorities say a toddler found nearly naked in a rainy California park was protected by a pack of dogs.
A Victorville police sergeant called to Brentwood Park found the 2-year-old in the rain Wednesday morning. He was wearing only a dirty diaper and was surrounded by seven dogs.
Police say they seemed protective of the boy. During their investigation, police said a dog tried to bite a sergeant and was shot. The dog is recovering.

Damien and his hellhounds?
The article does not say whether the child and the dogs were previously acquainted.
Mowgli!
Sounds like the dogs were doing a better job of looking after this child than the parents were!
I love dogs as much as anyone but they may have been protecting him for dinner.
I had the same thought.
There are documented cases of dogs adopting abandoned children and trying to raise them. I studied several cases from around the world. One case from Russia sounds like this one. A pack of dogs adopted a kid and they all lived in an abandoned building. These kids must be rescued from this situation early or they become permanently damaged in their speech centers along with other issues.
My daughter has a dog and three kids. They got the dog before they had the two youngest. The dog is extremely protective of all the kids, but especially the younger ones. She somehow knows that although they are about her size, they are children, immature, and in need of protection. My guess is that the dogs are tame, and recognized the child as one of their own and in need of protection. I am not a dog fancier, either, but sometimes they truly are humanity's best friend.
Nice dogs in that neighborhood. I guess that that there are still places in America where some dogs are allowed to run/roam free.

More like PROTECTIVE dogs.
Good on those dogs for looking after the boy, they’re better people than his putative mother.
Thanks. The dogs seem to have been part of the household, although it’s tough to be sure.
I also didn’t see anything regarding “cruelty” other than the child’s wandering out of the house while the mother was asleep.
I’m guessing that there may be more to this story.
Yes, probably.
Anyway, at least the baby and other children are squared away for now.
Me too.
Love dogs. With a passion. They are so damn loyal. But a pack of (I’m assuming feral) dogs? Never trust them. There was a pack living in the woods by my house and folks would shoot loose dogs in those woods on sight.
I used to believe that every case of children wandering out of the house was due to negligence by the parents. Then our fourth child turned two. That she is safe and alive now at age eleven is due to God’s protection.
