why can’t the rules of Medicare be changed to take care of the 20 million who can’t afford private insurance, if it really is that large a group??
Remember, Obamacare - ACA - was only meant to be an intermediate stop on the way to single payer as in Canada and England. What we call the Democratic Party is really a socialist party. If Hilary had been elected she would have continued the plan and by the end of her term we would look like a European Socialist country. And within a short period of time, a global government with loss of sovereignty for all nations.IMO
Who said it would kids' rates? If insurance companies are free to set sustainable, realistic rates on adults from 18-26 it could be a very profitable for them. This age group is very unlikely to use as much healthcare and the extra premiums lessens the stress on the risk pool.
That is politics. We can WANT things but we also have to be able PASS things.
Like it or not, these are popular with voters so were put IN the House GOP plan.
In a perfect world the Government would NOT be in Health Care but that ship sailed back in the 1970s.
People should own their own health insurance. That way pre-existing isn’t a liability when one changes jobs.
Covering True pre-existing conditions isn’t insurance.
Government has a role in a weights and measures sort of way.
[ Just trying to give the baby (Obama) his bottle so hell leave fairly peaceably ]
I think he should play coy about prosecuting Hillary, until he gets sworn in to prevent Obama from Pardoning Hillary.
If he raises any fuss about Hillary now, he would justify a pardon by Obama, if he plays it close to the chest he gets sworn in without Obama pardoning Hillary and then the gloves come off via an independent investigation.
No one ever said that the replacement plan would be 100% free of every element in the two thousand page obamacare bill.
Just like any failing company, there may be parts that are worth saving because they work, or make sense within a better system. Common sense is what needs to be applied.
I want it repealed. Period.
Symbolically, so the clueless out there will know that whatever comes afterward is not due to uncle Obama. Even if some parts are kept, the whole thing needs to be repealed first
I’m glad he’s considering preexisting conditions. Children under 26 is iffy to me. But I’ll take both in order to get the first one through.
I agree that it’s time to live in the real world.
There will be a replacement to go along with the repeal. I don’t want required gun ownership reports, death panels, and biometric national databases, but I think it must have a plan for preexisting conditions, for those who can’t afford insurance, for medical tort reform, for purchase across state lines, and other similar things.
Trump said long ago that he wouldn’t support a plan that allows people to die in the streets. I expect him to stand by that. It seemed to be a moral issue with him.
What is needed is de-insurancization. Most people need catastrophic insurance. Other people need long term care, which is a totally different world than routine family care most people need and which should not require insurance. Government interference and insurance has distorted that market into oblivion.
There are several Republican Health Care plans on various computers scattered around Washington.
I think Dr Ben Carson will be charged with the task of leading the Trump effort to sift through the various plans and develop a plan that will pass.
Although many, perhaps most here, oppose the congress, it is mandatory to remember that politics is the art of the possible. Much of the hysterical rants are not feasible.
I considered not going to work this morning.
Then thought better of it.................
Making sure people are covered with preexisting conditions is one of the only GOOD parts of it.
Staying on parents till 26 isn’t a bad thing, because in theory healthy kids...vast majority...don’t really add costs, and if your kid does have a condition, it gives you the ability to help protect them.
The thing is, IF they can straighten out the system and get costs reasonable, Health Care is one of the issues I am happy to see more people covered.
BUT not via Govt.
The insurance companies are as much to blame for Obamacare...the whole thing was a sham from jump street.
But again, if you get market forces to make premiums reasonable, there are some things like these 2 items that would be fine to do.
Excellent comment.
Right on the money and surprising that so many on the thread are thinking that these are ‘living in their parent’s basement’ adults. Maybe, but they are likely the healthiest members in the family and might even be working part-time with no access to other health ins.
He’s probably in hiding................
There were some systemic problems in the health care / insurance industry. Yes, those need be addressed, and yes it can be a legitimate role of government to jostle an industry out of customer abuse. Fine - fix those problems, and otherwise leave the industry alone.
(I’m reminded of the banking problem of banks all getting stuck in the seductive trap of: process debits on a customer account, apply fines for insufficient funds, then apply credits. All the banks did it that way. Took government intervention to say “cut it out; if someone deposits sufficient funds minutes after withdrawing a bit too much, don’t punish them”. They all just made too much money off the policy to change. The issue was fixed narrowly, not by government taking over the entire banking industry.)
Trump didn’t just say this. I heard him say that he might keep the pre-existing condition aspect several times during the primaries.
Horse $hit! Are you going to spend the rest of your FR life posting bs stories like this due to your hatred of Trump!

The mainstream media are reporting that President-elect Donald Trump is giving up on his promise to repeal and replace Obamacare, because he said he would be willing to preserve coverage for pre-existing conditions and allowing children to stay on their parents health insurance until age 26.
