I enjoy his shows on TV. You are in lala land if you expect his tours to be shoving 4th of July up the wazzoo of the countries he visits.
I don’t see a hard left bent in his shows, more of just a “polite guest” mentality.

I am doubting the veracity of this as I cannot guess this is a good way to get repeat business. I really doubt Steves wrote an America Hating script and demanded it be delivered. Especially if a tourist video got out. I’ve had a few tour guides give leftist takes on things, but this tour de force sounds like a bit much. Did he take a video of this tour guide?

Steves has a site where he is backing Hillary. He is an anti-Trump Democrat and Hillary lover and take it from me, my friend would never lie about something like this. He just wanted a good peaceful tour and a get away from what is going on here.

I've watched his shows in the past and enjoyed them. Like you, I doubt the spiel mouthed by Alfeo, was ordered by Steves. He wouldn't get or keep much business if he did. The poster's friend should have reported the comments this tour guide made, and forwarded them to the Rick Steves' tours contact address. Too bad he didn't record the comments as that would have been confirmation of his claims.

My son travels overseas regularly and says that Rick Steves' travel guides, and pod-casts have always been right-on. His recommendations for hotels and restaurants has always been current, and he's never gotten a bad recommendation from him.

Agreed. He may be a lib from Oregon, but he's not stupid.

Also, although I can't put my hands on it at the moment, I have read that all licensed tour guides in Italy adhere to a code of conduct that requires objectivity and respect for everyone regardless of where they come from. Indeed, the tour guide industry in Italy is highly regulated and very competitive, and while this guide could be guilty of the rant, as described, I have my doubts since it would have put him at risk of a large fine, suspension, or license revocation.
