In 1956 we were visiting my grandparents in New Jersey.
Upon hearing that the Andrea Doria was sinking, I went with my father and grandfather, in my grandfather’s fishing boat, to the scene of the sinking ship.
I remember that we fished a man out of the water and then headed in to shore. I always wondered what the man said to us. He spoke only Italian and we only spoke English. I was 10 at the time.
