Why are local street names a national political issue? Can’t each town make its own decisions on street names? If it really is a federal issue in Germany, that’s part of the problem.

I saw Karl-Marx-Strassen in West Germany in the 80’s, side streets not main thoroughfares.

Joke was that local merchants were ready to make change in either East or West German Deutschemarks, depending on which side’s armies prevailed in the Fulda Gap.
