He’s a sprinter and not a climber, right? He usually fades in the mountains?

With this beginning post of a thread titled [not] Live thread, I regretfully mention that I am currently up and gone by 6:00 Am and cannot maintain live posting as I have enjoyed doing in the past.
I will try to find time to make comments for those who care to follow this year's tour once I get home in the evening. But it won't be the same as watching live and bantering with my die hard roadie friends.
I hope those of you who may be following the action will post up here so I can try to check in during the day.
...I expect to see you on the weekends

He has such a pile of stage wins, I never realized this is his first day in yellow.

A bunch of lycra-clad posers.
First TDF race was won handily by a recumbent rider. So they banned recumbents. Must’ve really embarassed those idiots on the stupid bikes.

With the 70th anniversary of "D" Day coming this week the message of remembrance is a stark contrast to the condition of our world today. Perhaps there needs to be a greater ingestion of caffeine? "D" Day for the Normandy Invasion, Operation Overlord, was 6 June 1944, 72 years ago as of last month. NOT being critical of the observance or your mention of this TdF Stage 1 which went from Mont-Saint-Michel to Utah Beach, just correcting an unnecessary error.
Loved the fact that Cavendish got his 1st Yellow Jersey with this 27th TdF Stage Win. Sprinters can only get these in the 1st days of these multi-stage races! After his heartbreak in the 2014 Tour where he crashed out on English roads, this is great for him.
As for this picture, anyone else remembering the movie "The Longest Day" and Red Buttons as the hapless paratrooper dangling there at St Mere Eglise?

Alberto looked a little dinged up. Good thing for him the mountains are later rather than sooner.

I remember reading in a history book, that the real paratrooper did such a good job playing dead, that a German soldier wrote of being haunted by "that poor dead guy hanging from the steeple."

Keep posting even if you’re behind. I have never been able to watch it live. I was at work TODAY when it started and probably won’t catch up until later tonight. Besides, they’re in a whole different timezone. The greatness of dvrs. :-)

Be sure to catch Stage 20 which is a rare mountain stage right before the finishing day. After 19 days of racing, a stage with 4 climbs, the last one being out of category; I don't think it fair to think of the riders left in the GC as 'posers'.

Yeah lets just lay down and ride - sure makes it a lot easier! Recumbents in general are the some of the stupidest bikes on the road.

THANK YOU, FRiend, for posting this TdF thread!! I know you are very busy.
Saw most of the race this morning here in the Eastern Time Zone. DVR'd Stage 1 from 6:00 AM ET on. I'll try to return to this thread latter tonight when I have more time.
Pinging a few of our international FRiends here...
