The Republican Race Becomes The People vs. The Delegates
PJ Media ^ | April 19, 2016 | Roger L. Simon

Now that Donald Trump has won his big victory in the New York primary, the crucial conflict on the Republican side is The People versus The Delegates. (On the Democratic side, that's not a problem. The Delegates won long ago.)

Trump has been in the middle of this debate -- isn't he always -- taking the position that The People have primacy over The Delegates (or party elites). In New York at least, the people seem to agree with him. About seventy percent of the state's Republican voters, in an exit poll, said that the candidate with the most votes in the primaries should be the party nominee. Results were only slightly lower in Wisconsin.

Trump's position is clearly the small-d democratic one, but he can be faulted for not knowing, or at least not caring, about the delegate rules in advance (states like Colorado and Wyoming not needing a primary or even a caucus before nominating delegates, etc.) and then complaining. This does not speak well of his preparation for the presidency.

But truth and the American way is on Donald's side in this debate, if I may be so bold. Yes, we are a republic, but it is in the best tradition of a republic that the citizens of each state get to choose their state's favorite democratically, preferably by secret ballot. They do in the general election....

We should have a nationwide vote on the first Tuesday in June if a candidate gets over 50% he is the nominee. There will be a two person run off the following Saturday if there is no 50% winner on Tuesday.

Democratic but would probably produce losers.

I write you off as totally in the tank and then you post an article that is more than fair for Trump.

Shows what I know.

2016 is the year voters find out their primary vote doesn’t mean squat. And that goes for both parties, although it’s much more evident in the Democrat primary.

It isn’t too late. The ONLY way the voters can tell the party insiders to shove it and insist on voting for their candidates is to now give Trump an overwhelming win in the remaining states so there is no contested convention.

If we allow a contested convention after all this #NeverTrump garbage, we are surrendering our right to choose our candidate for all time.

2DV is a strong Cruz supporter and a good Freeper as well.

I once supported Cruz as strongly as he does now...I know how it must feel to see Trump pulling away.

I just wish the rift between the two men could be repaired and a Trump/Cruz ticket put together that could unite the party for the general.

Alas, I think it’s gonna be a Trump/Karsick ticket.

Wellsir, the worm has turned on FR, thank goodness.

Congratulations to our presumptive nominee, Donald Trump!

Everybody that says they will stay home if Trump gets nominated needs to read that last paragraph 5 times.

I’ll paste it here for ya...

The real enemies are not each other or even the the evil establishment (give Karl Rove and his white board a break). It is that other winner of Tuesday night’s primary — Hillary Rodham Clinton — now the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party, health and legal issues permitting. She is the one who will extend and expand the policies of Barack Obama that are changing the essence of our country. If you want that, keep fighting with each other.

...

I’ve watched Power Grab a couple of rimes recently, or parts of it, and I see it happening right in front of me. The show only confirms what I suspected long ago. Hillary will be the nominee, the party is doing everything it can to guarantee it, she thinks it’s her turn. She rides around in a limo with secret service protection while the middle class she panders to gets decimated.

She stated early in her campaign she will go further than Obama has. Bernie started howling about free stuff, she started yelling more free stuff. Once they get more people on government handouts than people paying taxes to carry the bill, the economy tanks and we’re looking at a socialist dictatorship. It’s dangerously close now.

I originally liked Cruz a lot too, until his campaign morphed from Elect Ted into Stop Trump. That’s when I knew he had sold out to the DC power brokers.

I’ll hold my nose and vote for Cruz if I have to, Hillary is much worse. I’d much prefer to vote for Trump. That is if the GOP doesn’t find a way, between now and November, to cheat him out of it. They’re trying...the last thing they want is someone they didn’t pick, especially when they know he is not going to tolerate their gravy train and will stop the cheap labor express currently bringing in illegal immigrants from everywhere they can to keep wages down and stop pushing taxes and regulations that kill small businesses.

We can’t sit back and let Hillary get elected just because we don’t get to vote for the guy we wanted originally. I refuse to jump on that bandwagon. If Kasich manages to cheat his way into the final race, I’ll hate myself, but I’ll have to go that route to keep Hillary out.

She’s evil. That was the very first thought in my head when I first saw her 30 years ago. Didn’t even know who she was, I had to look at the caption below the picture. Same as LBJ, I was 8 years old when he was first inaugurated, (turned 9 about 3 weeks later). I said, out loud, he’s a liar. My father jumped all over me. I stood my ground, I instinctively knew he was a liar. Always hated him. Many years later I know I was right.

Even if we don’t like who is on the ballot, we cannot let Hillary ever leave a slime trail into the white house. Ever.

Well, let's see.

A billionaire who has built his entire campaign on exporting illegals and building a wall, and a weird spastic guy who says he'd immediately make illegals citizens.

Right.

Remember Reagan/Bush

Two VERY different men.... to get the nomination Bush was forced on Reagan.

IMO Karsick is staying in and keeping his delegates in the hope that Trump will need them and make him VP to get them.

The GOPee wants a Trump/Karsick ticket in case Trump gets out of hand because they could impeach him and get Karsick in.

They do not want a Trump/Cruz ticket as that is their nightmare ticket. Impeach Trump and you get Cruz.

It’s actually a pretty simple issue given the mood of the GOP rank-and-file voters: either the candidate with the most primary voters and the most delegates entering the convention obtains the nomination, or the Republican party is history.

The GOPee wants a Trump/Karsick ticket

The GOPee wants a Trump/Karsick ticket

--------------------------

Can you hear yourself?

The GOPe wants nothing to do with Trump. He will destroy them, way before any VP could intervene.

BTW, Trump is already "out of hand" regarding GOPe.

I disagree. What we can't let exist is the RNC and all of those who support its agenda in its present form. If the nomination is stolen from Trump, there's no way the nation can be turned around. Let the dems have at it, and we realistically prepare for the future. How? One way is to clean up our local governments and stop the shenanigans at that level.

The current Republican Party died when the nomination was stolen for Cochran. The stinking corpse was revived for awhile (massive DC election victory with strong mandate to clean up their act) but couldn't be rehabilitated.

Cruz is no better. He's at that RNC meeting. He hired Neil Bush for his campaign team. His campaign tactics are despicable. If the nomination is stolen from Trump, a lot of the stolen delegate votes were the personal work of Ted Cruz.

Forget trying to sell anyone else. If the nomination is stolen from Trump, we should kamikaze all Republicans who don't fully embrace Trump before the convention.

The stinking corpse of the RNC and those who participate in their tactics needs to be buried.

” A billionaire who has built his entire campaign on exporting illegals and building a wall, and a weird spastic guy who says he’d immediately make illegals citizens. “

It’s going to have to be something like that (Kasich). Remember Reagan/Bush?

Got to placate the GOPe, Trump said he wanted an “insider”, and Trump/Kasich will destroy Hillary in the must win swing states OH, PA. And may even take away MI, NH.

Makes perfect sense, if winning is the goal.

“Kasich on his best day is a liberal scab.”

Agree, but he would guarantee an OH win if he was on the ticket as VP.
