Next Big Future needs a lesson in German U-Boats. The German Type VII submarine, one of which is pictured in the article, were approximately 67 meters long, not feet.

I don’t understand either the need to compare them to German U-boats at all.

No doubt there are plenty of past and present US, Japan, Canada, Soviet subs of possibly comparable size.

Its like saying - US Soldiers average 5’8” - nearly the SAME size as soldiers from Hitler’s feared SS!!

The pressure hull for the type II was about 90 to 97 feet, depending on the variant (27.8 -29.8 meters)

He is talking about the Type II coastal. 40 meters long, about 134 feet was the shortest one. But still much bigger than the 70 feet he is talking about.

Even the Jap mini-sub at Pearl Harbor was 78 feet.

Type XIV were 220 feet long. XXIs were over 250 feet. Type X was almost 300 feet. I can understand why the idiot reporter wouldn’t want to put his or her byline on this story.

(Even the coastal XVII was 120 - 136 feet (depending on variant)).

Here’s something close = CSS Huntley about 40 feet. Sounds like the Boeing sub uses a different propulsion system than did the Huntley.

I was wondering why the math and visualization wasn’t working out in my head.

But even the late WWI German boats attacked the US east coast. Early WWII German boats successfully attacked the Gulf Coast and southern Caribbean waters.
