"Anyone who doesn't back the nominee is a traitor who I would have less regard for than the crap on the bottom of my shoe, and that would include anyone backing a Trump third party if he is not the nominee."

Have to disagree vehemently here. Given that I no longer support the Republicans when they play the role of Democrat ringer, who they nominate is paramount. If by some Satanic action they attempt to install a third ringer in a row, they can screw themselves. I have no moment of hesitation in repudiating a party that has embraced evil. I repudiated Willard the Rat, and I retroactively repudiated McQueeg. That party is not on my side. Only if Cruz (or Trump, so long as he doesn't go native) is nominated will I vote for their nominee.

"I never heard that. Have you, DJ? What I've was his own idea was Gerald Ford, but Ford demanded too much power so he turned to Bush. He seemed set on united the party, he chose a RINO as his 1976 running mate too. Should have chosen a conservative."

Possibly, but how much it is true I don't know. Reagan's weak spot was attempting to appeal to RINOs as such. Choosing Dick Schweiker may have been the straw that cost him in 1976 (although it supposedly caused him to move rightward, and it is unfortunate he retired from the Senate in 1980, which would've prevented the execrable Specter from taking his seat). Picking Ford would've been a fiasco, because you'd have had two cooks competing for lead chef, and the media would've used squishy Ford to drive a wedge between himself and Reagan's agenda. There was only one person who should've been chosen in 1980, and that was Paul Laxalt. A runner-up would've been Ohio's John Ashbrook, although he'd have died just a year into his term as VP.

“. If by some Satanic action they attempt to install”

As I said, precious little chance of that, Trumper fear-mongering aside. It’s pretty hard to see anyone other than Trump or Cruz being nominated, they’re just trying to scare people into voting for Trump.

I doubt he nor many his fans here care who the nominee is if it’s not him. Everyone who is not for Trump is in the same category to them, the enemy. Remember the last time he gave a concession speech to Cruz? It was a good and gracious speech and I took it for a hopeful sign that he might cut the crap. The magnanimity lasted all of 12 hours before he went completely off the rails and started whining for re-vote, you know who the last Republican candidate to do that was.

More IL polls

IL GOP (NBC): Trump 34%, Cruz 25%, Kasich 21%, Rubio 16%.

IL GOP (CBS): Trump 38%, Cruz 34%, Kasich 16%, Rubio 11%.

I like that second one, 4 points. Gay’s itch and Rubs sucking wind, get excited DJ!

One of my theories re: a broken convention is that they'll try to foist Kasich as the nominee ("electability" and all) and shove Ted Cruz into the VP slot as a "concession" to the voters, but mostly to bury him and get him out the Senate, so they can say, "hey, these two ran in the primaries, we're not just shoving somebody down your throat you didn't have on the primary ballot." But, I don't think they're even smart enough for that.

Possibly, but how much it is true I don't know. Reagan's weak spot was attempting to appeal to RINOs as such.

I've always thought Reagan was trying to stave off the party stabbing him in the back as they did Goldwater, which is why he turned to Schweiker, considered Ford, and later Bush to be on the ticket. Might not have been necessary, though.

There was only one person who should've been chosen in 1980, and that was Paul Laxalt. A runner-up would've been Ohio's John Ashbrook, although he'd have died just a year into his term as VP.

What do you think of Jack Kemp as a pick? It would have been at the height of his career before he went squishy.
