"Data from the Federal Election Commission and state elections offices provided by the two websites show that Trump has given $584,850 to Democrats and $961,140 to the GOP over the last 26 years." (this is at the Federal level and does not include state or local)

My question is this--not being sarcastic either. How does Donald Trump stand there with a straight face and act as if he is not part of the "pay for political favors" game when he donates a large amount of money on a regular basis to many, many politicians; "his friends" he calls them. I don't get it. He incessantly slams lobbyists and politicians who give/take contributions. Yet, he himself, has a long list of contributions that have likely smoothed the way for his own business needs.
So why does he and America act as if he is some kind of virtuous outsider?
Can someone who really likes Trump help me understand. Thanks.
I am by no means a Trump fan, but in his league I can see where it would be part of “the cost of doing business”.
First of all you're going to have to grease the local politicians for the sudden zoning problems that always come up.
Then there's the kickbacks to the carpenters, and if you plan on using any cement in this building I'm sure the teamsters would like to have a little chat with ya, and that'll cost ya.
Oh and don't forget a little something for the building inspectors.
Then there's long term costs such as waste disposal. I don't know if you're familiar with who runs that business but I assure you it's not the boyscouts.
I seen Trump Properties
He can't get things domne and talks about the American people while neither of them has
Show me a list
Here at FR, in the past few months, logical supposition, inquiries and sophisticated dabate are all on hiatus.
You obviously are a rabid Cruz supporter who wants amnesty and hates America.
I do applaud you effort though.
I, unfortunately, have no answers to your backhanded, rhetorical, questiona to all Trump supporters. But you, I will vote for him if he wins the nomination and cross my fingers and hope that I am wrong about him. I support Cruz first and Trump second.
” Yet, he himself, has a long list of contributions that have likely smoothed the way for his own business needs.”
He mentions it at most, if not all, of his rallies. He does not hide it. He has played the game. The problem is with those who do the favors for a price.
You want an honest answer?
Here it is:
The game is rigged. We all know it’s rigged. We all know it is corrupt. We know that to get things done at the federal or state level, that political donations i.e., “pay for play” are what it takes. Up until this year, Trump was not an elected official, nor did he seek any political office. He was (and is) a businessman. He has freely admitted that he has made political contributions on BOTH sides of the aisle and he has also stated without equivocation that the system stinks, and it needs to be changed.
The sheer tsunami of political invective, screams, shrieks and condemnation all aimed at Trump tell me that he is indeed, the candidate that the big money Washington interests fear the most. They fear that what Trump promises, he is going to deliver, in spades.
You are known by the enemies you have, and Trump has all the right enemies.
That is why he has my vote.
Hope this helps.
If they are legal donations or gifts, then it is called being a successful businessman...It is really simple as that...
If it is illegal, then he should’ve been arrested...
He wasn’t...Therefor........
we’re desperate and he’d better not be bullsh!tting us
I should quit drinking and sober up before I post anymore.
(Wow!)
First of all you have to understand Trump has never been a ‘politician’ before, he has never held office, he has never voted or written a bill....
Trump is a businessman, a world known billionaire businessman and you have to know who that knows who to get things done....there are ‘government’ politics and there are ‘business’ politics...try building something in New York without donating here and there and lets see how many buildings you get built...
There is a world of difference in government and business, but its all the same idea...if you want something, you have to give to get...
He has donated to Independents, Democrats, and Republicans...he even went out and campaigned for Mitt Romney and how does that show what kind of man Romney is now? Trump gave to McCain’s campaign, both losers, so this time he’s doing it himself...
Try running a business, and then you begin to see the difference...I did, and do....
More flamebait from the flamebois.
If you are a billionaire developer you have to give to politicians in order get them off your back... and to make decisions in your favor. It's a fact. If you don't give you get rolled by those who do.
Trump's position is that it has ruined the country and... he is wealthy enough to make some changes. If someone like Trump doesn't make the change it will never be made, because only someone of Trump's means and popularity stands a chance.
Remember Microsoft was dragged through the courts by the government forever when Gates was not a political giver. Gates started giving and... guess what... no more political issues.
What he means is that while running for President he is self finding so he won’t be beholden to special interests the way other politicians are.
Trump may buy politicians but Trump isn’t for sale.
No other politician has put America’s interests on the economy, jobs, international trade policy and immigration first like Trump has. That is big picture and “trumps” donations made as a builder.
He explains if the nation wasn't so screwed up, he'd've never gotten INto this election ... he'd just contribute to whomever would help him
Which, allow me please .... WE ARE ALL VOTING THIS YEAR FOR THE MAN THAT WILL HELP ME
had to unload that
He states he decided he could do a better job ... and threw his hat in the ring
Which, again as I understand history ... is exactly what the founders had envisioned what a political figure should and would be
Our founders were highly educated, wealthy and well to do almost aristocrats that had a hankerin' to DO something for a social structure that could so easily be dominated by a monarchy and they ... in their arrogance ... decided ... "T'hell you WILL, Georgie"
Enter Trump
imho
Don’t assume that just because his name is on them that he has controlling interest in them.
Who are you voting for? Why are you voting for them? What have they done?
Trump is exposing the politicians that are first beholden to their super packed donors first... Which is why we get the shaft election in and election out. IT is a racket... So check out who OWNS your candidate, because they will receive the first fruits off your candidate... and they are like rented hookers singing platitudes to the masses to win. Then they return to the pimp owners stables.
