What then?
That’s exactly the way we got 0bama - favorite candidate/issue did not become the nominee.
Therefore, going through with that plan, do not complain when a) Christianity becomes illegal; b) you are forced to pay far higher taxes; c) Islam becomes the state religion; d) all men are required to marry at least two women; e) all women become property f) your children/grand-children are forcibly drafted; the are no longer any constraints on anyone crossing the line which used to mark the country’s borders; g) there is only one political party; h) SCOTUS makes all laws not decried by POTUS; i) and so on.
Everyone else who votes for their party nominee but loses the General because a sizable portion of the party in a fit of hubris stayed home. We already owe out thanks twice over for the people who gave us 0bama twice because their pride was more important then the country they claim to love and live in.
Cruz is not a likable person. It is in the eyes.
He is even more abhorrent when he goes negative.
What we REALLY need is a President who will amp it up ALL the way. Here's your role model.
Mark me down for Trump (although I will happily vote for Cruz over the democrat).
What will you say to us if Trump wins the primary and then beats the democrat?
You'll have a hard time convincing a lot of people on FR that is true. I've been here a long time, and I've never seen such mindless hatred and emotion regarding candidates.
I'm an 80/20 guy regarding conservatism: If a candidate satisfies 80% of my issues I can vote for him, understanding that some issues are weighted more heavily. Right now we need to elect a Republican. For me, the only issue that disqualifies any of the current candidates is immigration and the associated rule of law in INS matters.
Trump, no.
I held my nose for Mclame, and Romney ... never again. If America wants to elect another RINO, they will do it without my vote.

The difference between Romney/McCain and Trump is “ESTABLISHMENT”. You can dislike Trump for a lot of things, but you can’t say he’s establishment.
Is it correct that up until today there have been two primaries? OK, one state caucus and one primary...
And that these two contenders are 1-1? Up until today?
I’d say they are both winning— and after today, one will be more winning than the other— but to declare either of them TEH WINNAH is *so* premature.
As for me, I’ve long since chosen my primary candidate. In November, my business is defeating the democrat, so if the repubs nominate Chuck E. Cheese he’ll get my vote.
The use of a snippet from Rush’s broadcast is probably covered under fair use. Like using a quote from an editorial in the paper.
Not a lawyer, so I don’t know.
All credit goes to Trump for making himself a bigger target and taking a lot of the flack, and especially for rendering jeb as the footnote in this years election.
Cruz is still viable, and I hope he comes out of SC and NV as the clear front runner. But I will get behind whomever the clear front runner is, if there is a clear frontrunner in the next week or so.

Agree. That’s why I’m supporting Trump. I’ll vote for Cruz over any Dem but I’m afraid he’ll be “more of the same” only slower.
If this government isn’t shaken to its core in this election, IT’S OVER.
Just electing Trump will send millions of illegal home to their country of origin. The “game” will be over for them.

I’m supporting Trump and I do NOT hate Cruz. I will vote for him if he wins. But, honestly, he’s disappointed me a time or two on some pretty important issues (TPA, trusting McConnell, teddy bears to illegals, letting Beck “take over some of his rallies...).
And yet, weren’t we told, Romney and McCain could beat Obama?
These polls in the general, at this point, are only intended to sway scared Republicans to pick the candidate that is most establishment.

WHOA !!! Can NOT believe Bill Bennett wrote that. GREAT article.
The roaches will be running when the new sheriff get to town.

Excellent !
The main reason that Obama got his second term was that lots of voters didn't vote because Romney wasn't conservative enough (lots of folks on this website). The right needs to do what the RATS have done for decades - vote party on election day REGARDLESS of how you feel about the candidate. A republican lite is better than any democrat. IMHO, if you didn't vote you can't bitch about the results.
“But we’re about to blow it.”
No, we aren’t about to blow it. What is accomplished if (and it’s far from assured) Trump gets the nomination is that the GOP “pick the squish” apparatus will have been destroyed.
If you play the long game, get a Constitutionalist as Trumps running mate.
“conservatives” (whatever that means politically anymore) have been unable to overcome the GOP establishment for 20 years. It’s just a fact, and a sad one at that.
Trump is on the cusp of doing it (but again, it’s far from assured - there are plenty of GOPe tricks to be played).
That was ALWAYS a prerequisite for returning sanity to our federal government - the destruction of the “squish” GOP.
The wrecking ball precedes the rebuilding.
So it’s basically “self before country”. Pure and simple.
Well done, my feathered FRiend!. I just love your comment. It's one of the best I've read in my 6 months on Free Republic. You really get to the heart of the divide between the Trump and Cruz supporters. As a Trump fan, you explain my position very well: this election is not about issues alone! It's about competence and ability to execute. I tried to explain this point in a quantitative way in a recent post Excel Scoresheet: Who Should Republicans Nominate for President? For your fine commentary, tinyowl, I hereby bestow on you the H. L. Mencken Memorial Iconoclast Award.

Unfortunately, the Republican nomination process has turned into a massive circular firing squad. They aren’t trying to run against the real enemy—the leftist Democrats—but are shooting at their own.
No matter who wins, he may be fatally wounded for the general election from all the sniping back and forth.
And this may be the last election where Americans can prevent the transformation of our country into another hopeless leftist basket case. They really do want to turn us into Sweden.
