If you play acoustic guitar, then you need to see the Master at work. Take a few minutes and watch.

I’ve tried doing backyard recordings and invariably a dog barks. We live in a canyon that is a corridor for small airplanes so getting a backyard video without some kind of noisy distraction is pretty hard.

Tommy’s live shows “one man band” are incredible, hell everything he does is.

I met him and Doc Watson at a show. They boys could jam - fun to watch! Between the two of em, there were some really funny stories. Doc has passed on now. Tommy is a wonderful Christian man, a genius prodigy guitar player, and a pleasure to be around.

Really cool. And speaking of “boys” can you imaging growing up with these brothers? Tommy and Phil:

Tommy is a wonderful Christian man, a genius prodigy guitar player, and a pleasure to be around.

I learned something very important from watching Tommy Emmanuel and his videos. Talent is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration. I have learned about 20 or more of his songs and each one takes about 30-40 hours of intense playing, practice and perfecting. Take one phrase at a time. Work it out. Move to the next phrase. Work it out. Put them together. Lather, rinse, repeat.

After you work out all the technical aspects, then you have to work on the emotional aspects of the song.

To me, there is no one equal or even close to Tommy Emmanuel on acoustic guitar.

That being said, there are hundreds of songs that he has done that I don't think I could ever learn. Purple Haze is one of them. He probably put this one together in an afternoon.

Incredible really. Tommy told stories about touring with his brother in AUS as a youngster. Another funny story is he said Chet used to keep a statue figurine of Tommy on his mantle. I forgot how it came about, but Tommy would tease Chet about him adoring Tommy so much. I think Chet had a sincere admiration for his raw talent.

Truly what Tommy does with one guitar is uunprecedented and unrivaled. Watching this video, I am amazed by how at ease he is with the guitar. Thanks for posting this.

Tommy Emmanuel is nice, but I prefer another Phil. Phil Keaggy.

No flame war intended.

That was outstanding. I’ll definitely check out Keaggy’s other YT vids.

Seen him a couple times in concert. His “Day Tripper” is a fave and look up his “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” on YouTube.

I tried learning Day Tripper. After hours upon hours of practice I could eventually play it at about 1/2 speed and anything faster than that became “finger tripper.” His Beatles Medley is one of my favorites.

YouTube instructional videos are pretty helpful. Makes it much easier these days.

Best Hendrix cover is “Voodoo Chile” by Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Underrated by many, Prince does a hell of a job in this ‘guitar gods face off jam’:

Here is Tommy Emmanuel’s tribute to George Harrison:

He has an instructional video that walks you through how to play it.
