It doesn’t work at all. you have to use google, and search for your keywords with freerepublic.
Many of the duplicates, I’m guessing, are because people aren’t using search, not because it doesn’t work.
I fall back on ixquick when I have to, but the FR “Search” function has been there since its inception. Is it a lost cause then? Because then we could just dispense with it altogether and simply learn to live with multiple threads concerning the same story if there is no other option.
Then again, some posters seem to think that is the case even now...
I mean, I do not really care that the “Pings” and “Mail” indicators on the thread pages have not worked since about 2002 or thereabouts, since the indicators on the main index page continue to function, but if the “Search” feature *cough* is so un-necessary, why include it at all?
I just tried a search on "integrated", "Integrated", " 'integrated", " 'Integrated", and " 'integrated' " --and I could not find My own post! Re: "
Search works fine, although I spent a few seconds and removed the ' ' inside quotes from the original title which was 'Integrated' and not in the different versions you posted above.
Searching entire title with quotes removed:

Searching Integrated :

Try removing quotes prior to searching.
Thanks for the info. I did not include the quotes characters when I did the search in all instances. They were included in the post to demonstrate exactly what I input into the Search Box when I ran the search. I should also add that I used a Title Search when reporting these results. Wondering how you managed to get a different result when I tried so many variations on that with no additional characters other than what I input.
Look here:

THAT is what I consistantly came up with.
Migrants
STUNNING
Admission
Try: “Integrated” (Titles)
Without the quotes ( “ “ ) ...
May I add another request, JR & JR?
Allow a poster to edit his/her post.
This would eliminate a lot of posting errors.
” ‘Integrated’ “
The first word on the thread.
Minus the quotes symbols.

See?
Incidantally, we are still experiencing some difficulty with strange characters appearing on posts with no resolution yet in sight. Here is a temporary solution:

Hope it helps.
I’m saying you can use any of the words in the title and it works.
Thank you for that attempt at clarification, dear lady.
However I must point out that according to the attempts I have undergone thus far, there is a certain instance or instances where the Search Function on FR is sadly lacking.
One would hope that the first word on a referenced article would show up on a cursory search at the very least. however that does not appear to be the case thus far in this thread.
Happy New Year, and hope that all is well with you and yours. :)
Cheers!
It works just fine, but the default should not be “by relevance”.
Apparently, not by “Title” either, even though that is clearly what is evident in the title itself...
Or is the Search function meant to operate only in certain, specifically-defined and limited areas? Which apparently rather narrows the specified usability of a Search Function, does it not?
Not with the word “integrated” (minus the quotes symbols) included (and noted variations thereof) in a “Title Search” it does not.
As I noted above...
Another feature I'd love to see, when you type a poster's name, and you are one space, or character off ...it would be wonderful if in the *TO* line, I type *Tax man* and the software asks you: *Do you mean, Taxman, or Taxxman, Taxmann, Taximan?*
So any names typed that are *near* to what you actually typed are offered as possibilities.
Kinda like a *spellcheck* for screen-names that are in the FR database.

Thank you for all you Patriots provide.

Bad bad bad idea.
If you are too lazy to proofread, DO NOT POST.
go play tiddlywinks instead.
Duh. How simple! Thank you, Yaelle. It never even entered my mind & I google *everything*.
