But I read on some FR thread within the last couple of days that their White House dog — “Buddy”, I think — was found dead (I think the word used was “murdered”) immediately after they left the White House. Apparently, Buddy was simply a prop during the presidency.

Buddy was certainly a prop. I believe he was hit by a car shortly after Bill and Hillary carpetbagged their way to New York so that PIAPS could run for US Senate.
They also had Socks the cat early on during the Clinton regime. That poor cat was basically left to rot in the basement of the White House (and Clinton Brothel) from what I understand.
