Full title: Red light tickets thrown out in San Mateo: City to reimburse 948 tickets issued over 45 days because cameras, signals in violation of new state laws

Nearly 1,000 drivers who received a ticket for running a red light in San Mateo will be given a free pass after two of the city's red light cameras and traffic signals were found to be in violation of new state laws.

The police department will toss out 948 tickets issued between Aug. 1 and Oct. 15 after a San Mateo County Superior Court judge sided with a Burlingame man who received a ticket and sparked an NBC Bay Area investigation.

Carrying a hefty $540 fine, the city will dismiss $511,920 worth of tickets after staff failed to increase the yellow light times per new regulations in the California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

The city of San Mateo and their Revenue Officers knowingly violated California law (for the third time), and operated for profit red light cameras with shortened yellow light timing, causing rear end collisions.

More fine examples of concerned Public Servants wise administration of duty.

Please...the shortened lights “caused” the collisions?

Governments are about taking your money.

Not providing “services”.

Read the headlines and couldn’t figure out what area of San Mateo was the red light district. Around here they are called stop lights not red lights to avoid the confusion. Sort of a soda or pop thing

>>>Please...the shortened lights “caused” the collisions?<<<

No, the fear of getting a Red Light Ticket going through the Intersection on a Yellow Light caused the collisions.

People slammed on their Brakes and were hit from behind. They got rid of a Red Light Intersection Camera close to our House because Rear End Accidents increased there.
At least that’s the story I heard.

All of San Mateo is the red light district.

Our company has HQ there in San Mateo. I read a local paper there last year they were complaining about the roads and that the state didn’t pony up the promised funds allocated for repairs. Revenue generated theft of citizens by traffic cameras. We survived quite well without traffic light cameras for many decades until the rip offs by government
trying to trick drivers into trap$.

“Please...the shortened lights “caused” the collisions?”

The cameras in Tallahassee were not producing enough revenue, so they shortened the yellow to the legal minimum. If you were not already in the intersection you would not make it through in time. According to my neighbor, the engineer on the project, it increased rear end collisions.

They have just removed the cameras as they were losing money. (Pardon, “revenue.”)

But, the motorist who careened into the back of the law-abiding citizen was intending to run a red-light...ne c’est pas?

I’ve heard that multiple times, that when the yellows are increased by law,
the cameras no longer pay for themselves,
and the companies providing the cameras (and getting a share)
pull them because it’s no longer profitable to provide them.

The overwhelming majority of these citations are issued to those going through the end of the cycle, where vehicles in other directions are already stopped, waiting for the green.

This kind of light running is an annoyance, not a safety issue.

Show me one pic of such a red light runner getting into an accident.

Millions of photos - none of accidents.

That a 100% safety rate.

So what exactly is so dangerous about running lights in this way again?

$540 fine. That’s a lot of freaking money to some people - including me.

It’s all about safety. Not.

I saw a head on collision caused by two cars pushing the end of cycle red. One was waiting for the intersection to clear to turn left. When the light turned red he turned. A car coming in the opposite direction had sped up to beat the red and hit him head on at full speed.

We had MORE accidents at some red lights....And there's absolutely nothing that can convince me that the red lights cause FEWER accidents and they're only fender benders anyways. Speed limit is 30 MPH...and no two accidents are the same.

It's just for the money.

If this is allowed, the city will be dangerously short of taxpayer funds for bribery, corruption, campaign contributions, public employee unions, lavish public salaries and bennies, and crony contracts.

Bilking citizens is endemic in California at every level of government.

I prepare tax returns for a client that lives and operates a pretty large business in the bay area. They constantly get notices they're being audited by every county where they have stores, for personal property taxes and no matter what the truth is they always generate more tax by counting some items twice, or by saying an item should be reclassified into another category that has a higher tax rate. The auditors ignore everything I say, because the outcome has been predetermined. The audits are literally a shakedown and completely immoral.

Any entity that can tax or charge a fee is giving everyone in California an anal exam just to increase their revenue. How else are the dimocrats going to pay for their illegal voters?
