A WW1 classic tonight. Regiment 701 of the French Army is ordered to make a near-suicidal attack against a heavily fortified German position known as the "Ant Hill." When the attack fails, three soldiers are selected for court-martial and execution for cowardice. Only Colonel Dax (Kirk Douglas) stands between the men and the firing squad.
Directed by Stanley Kubrick. Based on the real life WW1 court-martials of the Souain Corporal Affair. HD video, variable film speed (see post).

NOTE: The poster uploaded the film at reduced speed, probably to thwart the youtube filters. Click on the "options" button, and change play speed from Normal to 1.25 and it will play just fine. Enjoy!

I don’t know about Kubrick’s best. THAT is a tough list to crack. But well worth viewing. A great movie.

Thanks for the post and the tip.
IMO, best line in the movie (from IMDB):
[the condemned men are awaiting execution]
Corporal Paris: See that cockroach? Tomorrow morning, we'll be dead and it'll be alive. It'll have more contact with my wife and child than I will. I'll be nothing, and it'll be alive.
[Ferol smashes the roach]
Private Ferol: Now you got the edge on him.
What a waste of good men WWI was, Europe never recovered from it, WWII was just piling on.
Please excuse my ignorance: There’s an options option under Tools on my menu bar or whatever you call it, and there’s a Help option at the bottom of the Youtube screen which has an article on video settings. Is there a hidden menu on Youtube I can pull up?
Hi Silentgypsy,
I mispoke - I should have said the “settings” button on the bottom of the player. It looks like a cog. Click on that and change the sound to 1.25 and it should play find.
If, for some reason, you get a green and red “3D” image (youtube is so weird these days!) of the movie, you’ll need to fix that first. Click on the settings button, change 3D imaging to “HTML Stereo view 5” or something like that, and then click again to adjust the sound. Then, it will play perfectly, I promise, LOL.
Sorry for the confusion - my mistake! :-)
You are a great blessing! Thx!
