CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. A white dwarf star in the Constellation Virgo turns out to be a "death star" worthy of "Star Wars."
Astronomers announced Wednesday that they have discovered a rocky object coming apart in a death spiral around this distant star. They used NASA's exoplanet-hunting Kepler spacecraft to make the discovery, then followed up with ground observations.
"This is something no human has seen before," said Andrew Vanderburg of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the lead author.
"We're watching a solar system get destroyed," he said in a statement.

Eventually the same scenario will happen to our Solar System, but fortunately we won’t be around to see it.
Maybe they were naughty like us.
The universe is a very dangerous place. That life managed to exist in the first place is a miracle. Time is against us I think.
Ah, my 20s and 30s were probably the highlights anyway.
Plus i’m out of shape and pushing 50.. :)
i feel bad for the guys at google and a few other places who put billions into finding the scientific secret of immortality. they’ll be very depressed if an asteroid or planet killer heads our way.
couldn’t download the @#$@#$ing link. what’s that a picture of?
It’s the work of some artist with the screen name CoNuNDRuM-OwNs. I just tonight came across it searching for images using the search terms “planet destroyer”. It’s titled, what else, “Planet Destroyer”.

crew.
Capt. Kirk: Matt, where's your crew? Matt Decker: On the third planet. Capt. Kirk: There IS no third planet! Matt Decker: [anguished] Don't you think I know that? There was, but not anymore!
Nah, it’s da JOOZ almighty, one true God who will eventually destroy everything and start over so His followers can live with Him forever. He misses our walks in the garden.
Another nice three-way!

Thanks WhiskeyX, extra to APoD.
If you hover your cursor over the image, you will see that it is from someone’s Photobucket account.
There really isn’t much information in the link, except that it is supposed to be a humorous image.
Lol! Looks like a rolled up piece of aluminum foil. But that’s part of what made that series and Lost In Space so entertaining, IMO. You could laugh with them and at them at the same time. Loved both of them. Still do. Movies were pretty good too. Have no use at all for any of the Star Trek series that came after.
I like the ‘Enterprise ‘ series. Less prime directive more kick @$$.
That was a classic Star Trek episode. William Windom played Cmdr. Decker perfectly.
This is what will happen if we elect TRUMP!
