I was principal web designer at a medium-large municipality for 4 years, about 40% of my job consisted in tracking down bad links, now with WordPress we relegate that data-toilet-cleaning to back-end databases which seamlessly and effortlessly handle that task UNLESS SOME UNTHINKING BUSIBODY IS SAVING THE WORLD BY MOVING LINKS. Guess what: They're Free. If you want to re-organize, start your new stuff in a different folder. PLEASE, PLEASE, LEAVE OLD STUFF WHERE IT IS.

Well, this is “activism” of a sort. While we’re at it will somebody tell the neighborhood kids to stay the hell off my lawn? I’m getting tired of shaking my fist. :0)

How to Change a link shortcut/alias in WordPress: Change the Title, that’s okay, click the Edit button to the right of PermaLink and to the left of the View Post and Get ShortLink buttons. Delete whatever is in the Edit dialog, click OK. Whammo! Instantly, the backend database has created a new alias to your article (which is actually a numeric entry), but THE OLD LINK STILL WORKS. Ok. I will stop.
And what town do you work for that can afford to pay you to do this 40% of the time?

Broken links, missing links, and dead links. They’re a pain but worst of all are rewritten articles with contextual and narrative shifts — largely the result of correcting grammar/spelling errors, but too many are edited when somebody “misspoke”.
