MEXICO CITY (AP) Mexico mounted an all-out manhunt Sunday for its most powerful drug lord, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, who escaped from a maximum security prison through a 1.5-kilometer (1 mile) tunnel from a small opening in the shower area of his cell, according to the country's top security official.
The elaborate underground escape route, built allegedly without the detection of authorities, allowed Guzman to do what Mexican officials promised would never happen after his re-capture last year slip out of one of the country's most secure penitentiaries for the second time.
If Guzman is not captured immediately, the drug lord will likely be back in full command and control of the Sinaloa cartel in 48 hours, said Michael S. Vigil, a retired U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration chief of international operations.
"We may never find him again," he said. "All the accolades that Mexico has received in their counterdrug efforts will be erased by this one event."

Obama and Pelosi are already waiting at the border with a Democrat Registration Card so he can vote 10 times in 2016
“”We may never find him again,”
Try looking in san francisco.
This is the guy who cut the fast and furious deal with Obama and Hillary and Holder. No doubt the friends of El Chapo built the tunnel. Business is business. Main supplier to the Chicago drug market is Sinaloa.
Mexicans, NOT doing the job that Americans need them to do.
WOW what an engineering feat, a mile long tunnel right to the shower room. LOL, that makes it so easy to dig tunnels under a fence or a wall, across the whole length of the border. If they can do little ones, they can dig bigger ones. Who knows how many tunnels are dug under our borders waiting to be used by which ever group comes up with the big $$$. I can see dozens or even thousands of machine gun mounted Toyota pickup trucks that could come charging out of the opened tunnels before we could respond effectively. Far fetched?? Who knows what dreams lurk in the hearts of evil men? At the rate we are going, it won’t belong for us to be recognized as just another Latin American Dictatorship Gov’t.. :(
“Hola El Chapo. This is Sgt Garcia. Mexican Military Forces are on the way to arrest you. Please send the 10,000 US dollars to my Cayman Islands account per our agreement. Have a nice day.”
Hooow ‘bout that?
Didn’t even know he was in prison. I suppose the precipitous drop in the Mexican drug trade should have been a clue.
Chapo has gotten a lot of bad press, but if you can see past all of the torture and killings, you will find a pretty decent guy.
From the beginning I did not believe Guzman was really incarcerated after his recent arrest. His power was never diminished, there was no power struggle of violence when he was supposedly arrested. I am convinced the entire time it was something staged to impress the Americans concerned about the cartel war.
I do not think Guzman just escaped, I don’t think he has been behind bars. I believe he has been free all along and conducting his business as usual.
Exactly.
Why wasn’t Guzman executed in the first place? Prison is too good for these thugs?
