Daily Mail (U.K.) ^ | July 4, 2015 | Mia de Graaf

Former Disney CEO Michael Eisner believes women are rarely both funny and beautiful.

Speaking with Goldie Hawn at the Aspen Ideas Festival, he said: 'The hardest artist to find is a beautiful, funny woman.'

He prophetically added: 'Boy I'm going to get in trouble, I know this goes online. But usually, unbelievably beautiful women - you being an exception - are not funny.'

Accordingly, his words have have prompted outrage on Twitter, with thousands of people name-checking comedians such as Tina Fey, Mindy Kalig and Kristen Wiig as examples of the supposedly unattainable formula.

Funny men usually aren't handsome either.

Was thinking the same thing. There is this idiocy that if a man doesn’t want to have sex with a particular woman, then she serves no useful purpose at all. Isn’t this the guy who brought all the filth to Disney?

Carrot Top talked about being a “clown” and spoke of Leno’s chin and Letterman’s tooth gap.

Cary Grant. And among funny women, Lucille Ball was a classic beauty.

It's a common belief that a person who isn't naturally good looking - or isn't treated as good-looking in youth - is likely to seek positive attention by being funny or interesting. This is intuitively believable.

However, the number of counter-examples raises the question of whether this is simple a myth, rather than a mostly- or often-truism.

Phyllis Diller was a perfectly nice-looking woman. If she'd chosen to present herself in a glamorous way, instead of an outrageous way, she might have been hailed as "beautiful."

My wife,
Aisha Taylor, quite possibly the prettiest black woman ever,
Tina Fey,
Nicole Sullivan (back in the day),
Anna Faris (not very funny on Mom, but nonetheless a former riot),
Nicole Parker.

The only thing I’d allow to support Eisner is simply that some humor requires brain bleach to see the person as desirable again.

George Clooney is handsome and he is funny in the Coen Brothers movies. There are probably more beautiful women who are funny than handsome men who are funny, such as:

Diane Keaton
Jennifer Anniston (not a big fan of her rom-coms but she can make you laugh)
Carole Lombard
Jennifer Jason Leigh (hilarous in The Hudsucker Proxy channeling Rosalind Russell and Katharine Hepburn)
Mary Tyler Moore
Valerie Harper
Shelley Long
Emily Blunt (beautiful and funny in The Devil Wears Prada)

How’s that free speech lieberalism workin’ out for ya Eisner? Nice society you thin-skinned lieberals created. Most comediennes would be liberal so he’s mostly correct save for a few.

Who cares what Eisner thinks about *anything*?

Beauty is more than skin-deep.

Victoria Jackson— but then she’s quite a bit conservative.

The outrage about what people say is, to coin a phrase, an outrage.

It’s an opinion. One person’s opinion.

The personality of woman is part of her beauty. I personally am not attracted at all to the ‘cold’ exotic model look that seems to be used so frequently to sell products to women. A smile is beautiful.

I think it’s mostly in how the person acts, as well as clothing, hairstyles, makeup (for women). When a person is “acting” funny, you don’t necessarily notice his or her features. When the person is acting beautiful, we’re inclined to believe it.
