I would a lot of this to cognitive dissonance. They want to be part of the crowd but to do so they have to profess belief in a ton of things their heart tells them just isn’t true. They want to be true to their convictions but don’t want to suffer the social ostracism which goes along with that. So, they just shut up and pretend and the conflict ends up coming out as anxiety and depression.
“They can’t tolerate discomfort or having to struggle,” Dan Jones, director of counseling and psychological services at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, told The Times. “A primary symptom is worrying, and they don’t have the ability to soothe themselves.”
Discomfort and struggle.....isn’t that description of life?? Are they lowering depression and anxiety thresholds so much that everyone has these disorders? Are they coddling the millenials so that ANY discomfort is a bad thing (a disorder) and that you need counciling and medication to cope with it?

There is an “anxiety” medical condition. But it is not nearly as prevalent as the number of people claiming to have “anxiety.” A huge number of people claim to have it as a way to excuse themselves when they don’t want to deal with the rough edges of life.
I gues this is why they need “safe spaces” to be protected frThey appear to find comfort in agreeing with everyone else at every step of the way on their cell phone.
Depression is what you get when you see who’s sitting in the White House. Anxiety is what you get when you realize that you’re going to be the one to pay for it.
Whaaaaa, I need a safe room because my parents gave me everything from the moon and beyond and my coach handed everyone a participant ribbon so no one felt like a loser and my HS teacher passed me knowing all of us sitting at big round tables cheated instead of making us keep our eyes on our own papers while sitting at separate desks but more upsetting is I think someone might have looked at me in an offensive manner on the way to my Women’s and Gender Studies class with Prof. Caitlyn.
Is there a big difference? Don't they have the same root?
I’m so old I remember when depression in college was the result of goofing off and getting bad grades.
I’m so old I remember feeling anxious before tests and big papers.
I’m so old I remember fear being a major motivator in school and at work.
I’m so old I grew up without school programs intended to boost my self esteem.
I’m so old I actually took math, physics, chemistry and biology courses in college.
I miss Faber College...
The Obama Depression is OVER!
It’s been replaced by anxiety since jobs are not to be found, chaos reigns in the streets, and we are no longer the leader of the free world.
I’d be anxious of I was a kid all alone and I had to be careful about every dang little thing I said and did. In fear of micro-agressing anyone and everyone.
We all know the #1 mental disorder on college capuses, nationwide, is Liberalism.
