If true this isn't gonna end well for Petco.

“They didn’t even tell me why I had to go there, just that one of the managers would meet me there,” said Marks, 51, a food operations manager at the Beaumont Juvenile Correctional Center. “I walked into it blind.”

Seriously, though, how big are these dryers?

Let me guess....the kid who did this probably is in favor of all that $15 / hour cause and feels entitled to it.

I'd say this pretty much confirms that it is true:
"I just started screaming. Colby was my everything," she said, noting that the vet said Colby had been dead for at least 45 minutes "and his temperature was still above 105 degrees."
It shouldn't end well for Petco, or the groomer for that matter. Furthermore, they should be getting rid of those dryers immediately. There is no reason not to be drying them with a hand held appliance.

I bathed my cat one day and put her in the clothes dryer but at least I didn't forget and leave her in there....Watching thru the window door, she looked like a hampster on one of those wheels (running really, really fast).
Bad joke......
I can't imagine how I would feel if my cat (or dog if I had one) were to die at the hands of a mere groomer..........

I used to bring my Chaucer to Pet Smart for a totally ridiculous pampering once every few months. I stopped doing that when I learned about those heat lanps and other contraptions they use to dry the dogs after a shampoo.
It's a dumb idea....dogs overheat so easily.

Very sad. This woman loses her husband and gets a buddy so she isn’t alone. Some nitwit kills the dog. I can only imagine she is blaming herself in some ways since she was the one who brought him there. Well, that’s how I would feel.

Turns out this is not the first dog to die at
PETCO from these hair dryers.
It has also happened at PetSmart.

First off, I have to say, accident. Terrible accident, and maybe someone was really negligent.
OTOH, I have to ask - “drying unit”?
Just what are these things? Chambers?
Seriously, all the dog handlers at shows I knew and even the groomers I knew recently, as well as I, dried a dog in a CRATE - a fully-open grated crate, with a blow-drier outside. Professionals usually had what were called “ducks” because of the shape thanks to their built-in stand format.
I cannot see drying a dog in a closed chamber.
If not that, I cannot see how he would die because of a drier, unless it was a really, really tight crate butt up against a blow-drier.
