After days of speculation and wagers by royal watchers all over the world, Kate Middleton and Prince William have named their new baby daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.
The littlest royal will carry the title Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, a Kensington Palace said in a statement Monday.
Princess Charlotte -- who was born Saturday at Londons St. Marys hospital -- is now home with her royal parents at Kensington Palace. She met her grandparents and other family members at the couple's palace home in London Sunday, Reuters reported.
Top bets for the baby's name had included Alice and Charlotte, followed by Elizabeth, Victoria and Diana -- all names with strong connections to royal tradition. Diana was a favorite as it pays tribute to Williams late mother, and Elizabeth is both the Queen's name and Kate's mother's middle name.
The name Charlotte is French in origin and means "petite" and "feminine," Sky News reported. The feminine form of Charles, the name has a long royal pedigree and became popular in the 18th century after King George III's queen, the BBC says. Charlotte is also the middle name of Kate's sister Pippa.
Kensington Palace said the baby was born at 8:34 a.m. London time and weighed 8 pounds 3 ounces. Prince William was with his wife at the hospital along with the couple's son, Prince George. The palace said Kate, 33, and her infant were doing well, and that Prince William was present for the birth.
Kate, who wed William in April 2011, gave birth to Prince George at the same hospital in July 2013. When George was born, officials waited two days before announcing his name.
The princess is fourth in line to the throne and the fifth great-grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II.

I note that the baby girl's name is the same as the that of Bill and Hillary's granddaughter.
I picked Maria Conchita!
At this point I care little. I am sad for the UK and their capitulations to be sucked into eurabia. Glad I got to see it before it all really went south big time.
No real American should care. I wish William and Kate and George and Charlotte the best of luck, just as I would wish any family the best of luck upon the birth of a child. But no true American recognizes royalty as anything other than the scam which it is.
There was an earlier Princess Charlotte, the only legitimate child of the future King George IV. She was born in 1796 and died in 1817 shortly after giving birth to a stillborn son. Her husband was later King Leopold I of the Belgians.

Their name choices are limited. The firstname especially needs royal connection. No Apple, Oprah or Demi. In that sense Charlotte makes alot of sense. I would’ve preferred Alexandra for firstname. No surpises re the other names Elizabeth & Diana.
No one seems to mention that Gran’ma’s name is there ... DIANA
Almost certainly Charlotte is named after the wife of George III, after which Charlotte NC must also be named, since it is in Mecklenburg County and she was the daughter of the Duke (I think he was a duke) of Mecklenburg.
Elizabeth is of course from great-grandmother, and Diana from grandmother.
FWIW, I thought she would be named Victoria Elizabeth, and Mrs. Chajin thought she would be Elizabeth Diana, so I guess the Mrs. gets the closest-to-the-right-name prize.
And no, it doesn’t really matter, any more than the Lightning beating the Canadiens twice in Montreal matters, but both provide a break from reality, which is no fun for most of us at the moment.
Beautiful name! I’m glad “Diana” is in there.

I did read that the ‘Charlotte’ is for Prince Charles, the feminine for Charles. So, named after both paternal grandparents and GiGi Queen Elizabeth. I like the name and wish her a joyous life.
America’s Royal Grand-daughter is named Charlotte also!
Charlotte is the feminine of Charles. It is also Pipa’s middle name, Kate’s sister. The choice makes perfect sense. I think they chose very thoughtfully and wisely.
Elizabeth is the great grandmother’s name but also the Kate’s mother’s name. So it is a two-fer. So is Charlotte. In fact, Charlotte is a three-fer. There is George III’s wife as you mentioned. It is Pippa, Kate’s sister’s middle name. And it is the feminine of Charles. Diana stands alone and I am very glad they picked it.
I thought about the feminine of Charles, and then forgot :-/ now that you mention it, I always figured he was named for Charles I/II, the kings associated with the Restoration, but now I wonder if perhaps he wasn’t named for his however-many-greats grandmother.
So is our cat.
It’s a classy name. I get it that the royal family is primarily figurehead, but they’re there whether we approve or not. At least Kate and William seem to have it together and most likely will raise some decent kids.
