The players of the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago White Sox lined up for the national anthem this afternoon in front of an empty stadium, in unprecedented scenes never before witnessed in the history of baseball.
With the National Guard posted outside Camden Yards and debris still being cleaned up off the streets, the Orioles played the first ever MLB game behind closed doors.
Just before the players took the field The Beatles 'Day Tripper' blared out the PA system to an otherwise eerily silent stadium and 45,000 empty seats.

I liked pfflier’s line below:
Call the box office, ask when the game starts.
“When can you get here?”
Sort of like 3 Rivers Stadium circa 1987.
The mayor of Baltimore should be so proud (not).
I was not aware that your average baseball fan was prone to rioting and looting.
When you lock the civilized out, the terrorists win.
This is an iconic event.
America’s game - shut down due to urban violence.
Here’s a great quote from another article:
I dont think the strangeness has set in right now, Sox infielder Gordon Beckham said. Ive never played in a big-league stadium that was empty. The closest I came was at the end of the season in Cleveland when there was like 1,000 people there. Itll be interesting. Weve talked about possibly doing some cheering without any noise just to, kind of, add to it.
On the bright side, getting out of the parking lot after the game will be a cinch.
Take me out to the ball g-—
OK, don’t take me there.
Maryland “Freak State” DANG!
It’s a practice mini-zombie outbreak, like a Walking Dead episode.
Upside, no long lines for the ladies’ rooms; downside, zombies.
Chevrolet, Baseball & Mom's Apple Pie.
Chevrolet when bankrupt
Baseball has no fans in the park
What is 0bama going to do to Mom's Apple Pie?
Was just out for a walk with some of my boys here at work; one is a Braves fan, he was telling me that there is a guy playing on the Nationals, who the Braves are playing in a series currently, name of Dan Ugglah, I think that’s how you spell it, well anyway he plays on the Nats but the Braves still have him under contract for some strange reason; he made $78,000 for playing last night!
I swear if I was a billionaire I wouldn’t give a single cent to any pro sports team; they threaten to move if the taxpayers don’t build them new stadia, then jack the prices up on everything to astronomical levels, then lock the fans out a la Baltimordor.
I’m not a liberal so I wouldn’t make pro sports illegal just because I don’t like it, but I swear if I was dictator for a day some things would change!
It is and a sad day for baseball fans.
I hope that never happens to the Mariners. If they won with no eyewitnesses, nobody would believe it.
That's nothing. The Angels are going to pay that junkie, Josh Hamilton, $80 million to play for the Rangers.
Which, by the way is why I’m saying now, “Go Astros!”
The Thuglets won the game in the top of the First Inning Monday Afternoon.
A City led by whimpering Liberals let children shut down the City. (after all that is what the Police Commissioner called them)
Now that is REAL Leadership you can count on.....to hide and wait for someone from the outside to step up and do their Job.
