Jeremy Clarkson made light of his suspension by the BBC, as an online petition for him to be reinstated topped 500,000 signatures.
The Top Gear presenter told reporters he was "just off to the job centre" as he left his home in London.

I don’t get it - punching a producer is a bad thing?
Hey BBC, THE SHOW IS A SUCCESS BECAUSE IT'S NOT ANY OF THOSE THINGS, IDIOTS.
He appears to have 20-30 lbs on the producer. I suppose the idea of self-control is simply too antiquated to broach with this guy.
The Brits will admit that he’s a jerk, but they also admit that he’s their jerk.
It's a ‘guys’ car show. It's about doing lots of crazy stuff. Guys should be guys! Go outside. Settle it. Buy each other beers tonight.
I am getting so sick of the ultra politically correct, candy assed world that is attempting to be rammed down our throats!
I do think they want it replaced by Top Eco-Sensitive Government-approved Gear
The producer looks like he should be punched.
The producer does look like a punk. And Jeremy has never seemed like the sort who would take much s#!+ from anyone, save his costars. The three of them rattle each other’s cages all the time. Difference might be they are all “lads”. The producer more resembles a wannabe “lassie”.
The show needs all three of the guys to work. The personality of each is the formula for success.
Do a Top Gear challenge. See which Presenter can knock the producer the farthest.
True, but Im a gal and I love Top Gear and watching the guys doing lots of crazy stuff.
I am getting so sick of the ultra politically correct, candy assed world that is attempting to be rammed down our throats!
Im with ya brother!
Isn’t this the same guy that slugged Piers Morgan?
The same.
The producer is his boss.
He punched his boss, and now he is out of a job.
Not sure what magical period in the past had this type of behavior ever be seen as manly and acceptable.
Is a GREAT program and I’m proud to say I’ve seen ALL of them, and many more than once. IMO, the best show on television and you don’t necessarily have to be ‘into cars’.
When May was asked today by the press what happened, he said, “I have no idea, I was blind drunk at the time.” So, it’s likely safe to assume there was some alcohol involved.
Lots of stories in the UK Press today about how this could cost the BBC tens of millions of dollars, and that the show brings in so much money worldwide, that BBC uses to subsidize other programming, that it could cause an increase in the UK TV license fees.
And that SKY TV wants Clarkson, and is willing to pay big for him.
