I have been using a Samsung Gear 2 watch with my Samsung S3 phone for the past few months. It does an awful lot, in fact one of the most common criticisms in reviews is that it does too much. It is an attractive time piece; the first thing I did was use one of the apps to put a Rolex watch face that I copied from a high resolution jpg. It is not going to fool anyone, but it was fun to do.

It has a good speaker and microphone; you can answer or make phone calls, you can send texts by giving voice commands; it takes your pulse; it tracks your sleep; it acts as a pedometer; it will use your phones GPS to work as a cycle computer; it will connect to a Bluetooth headset and listen to music; you can do all of this without ever taking your phone out. The battery lasts up to about 3 days depending on which features you use, but it charges up in just a couple hours.

I am wondering what the iWatch will do that the Samsung Gear 2 Watch will not.

I forgot to mention that the Gear 2 has a surprisingly good camera. I am not sure why they included it other than novelty and possibly scanning barcodes.

I don’t understand

Seems my G5 does all that already.

My wife actually gave it to me; I was quite skeptical. It is one of those things that doesn't seem like it would be worthwhile, but is surprising how often it gets used. It gives silent little vibrations when someone is texting or calling and you can check them out without getting your phone out. It also works good as a speaker phone when driving. It works better than the Bluetooth thing I used to have stuck on my visor.

Cool! I have one of the cheap old standard Casio calculator watches. I also have several altimeter and variometer watches from when I was hang gliding, along with an old camera watch. I guess my wife had a fairly good idea that it would cause my dormant ETF (Electronic Trinket Fever) to flair up.

Had a guy at work still had one of those into the late 90's.

Dunno how he kept it working, or how he worked the tiny buttons. He was a little guy, no way my fat fingers could work it, nor my eyes see it.

Gadgets in those days all came with a dedicated stylus. My early Kyocera smart phone had one as did my early Palm phones.

I wear a watch. It’s a very nice Timex and does everything I want it to.
