There have been so many tributes to the great Jean Beliveau in the last week. So many of them have been moving, like the video and the salute to his family at Tuesday night's Montreal Canadiens home game.
But leave it to hockey's master of the montage, Tim Thompson, to completely nail it. The voices, the images, the moments, the tones of Leonard Cohen turning into Mr. Beliveau's favorite opera ... it's amazing.
(Thompson was, of course, the man behind all of those great Hockey Night In Canada montages.)
Few hockey videos, if any, are scored to Pavarotti. Yet it's just perfect here.

I remember Jean BeLiveau coming to town when I was a young kid. My dad used to take me to Olympia Stadium in Detroit to see the Red Wings and the Canadians play.
He’s on The Cup 10 times as a player and 7 as an executive.
And something about that photo sends chills through me. What a remarkable piece of hockey history there.
Back when sports figures were truly men to look up to, it’s a far cry from that today.
What a stunning tribute...RIP #4...
Ping to Airborne for his hockey list (what a great video to pass along).
The original 6 teams were full of classy men like Jean. Remembering Rocket Richard, Andre Pronovost and Jacques Plante in the cage. Red Wings Gordie Howe, Alex Delvechhio, Normie Ullman and Terry Sawchuk in the net. All classy and worth the price of admission.
Me too. That was definitely the Golden Age of the NHL: Sawchuck, Leswick, Lindsay, The Richard Brothers, Jacques Plante, Red Kelly, THE Gordie Howe...
The GAG line. Eddie Eddie Eddie. Harry Howell. Not the Golden Age but still.. Class.
Tim Thompson is brother of Jim Thompson, founder of FR !
Those of us outside Quebec cannot feel the impact this man had on society there. He and Rocket Richard are the two greats who have had Quebec state funerals. Someone up here said maybe when Ali goes it might be the same for at least black America. We shall see. I know there are a lot of anti Ali Freepers and I am one of them to some extent but his deification by a large swath of America is out there. Pele who was recently in the hospital might be the same for Brazil.
George St. Pierre to the 10th power?
