"Have they learned nothing over there?"

Silly person. Of course they have learning something. They've learned that diversity is the cure for all of society's ills. They've learned that weakness in the face of evil is really civilized. The fact that they are wrong, doesn't change the fact that they've learned something.

I remember reading a book about the personal experiences of a Frenchman living in occupied France during WWII. The author wasn't famous but lived a middle class life in Paris. He did not belong to the resistance, but assisted in secondary ways, e.g. leaving doors open in case someone needed to hide fast, fed families of those that were arrested, etc... ..

He observed: Even though the French and Germans had a rivalry that went back many years, a lot of Frenchmen sought ways to live peacefully with the Germans. Interestingly enough, those that sought harmony the most were the "keepers of society": police, bureaucrats, clergy, etc... . His take was that those that are the drones of society (which he considered himself to be) worked hard not to lose what they had, even if it meant acting as a secondary citizen. They considered themselves to be good people and since peace was good, then trying to keep the peace was also good. Even if keeping the peace was slowly causing society to collapse.

You could turn a drone into a fighter, but you had to do something that personally impacted that person, e.g. kill her husband and force her into poverty.
