Full Daily Mail title:
Female sex hormone is ‘fueling male obesity epidemic and causing sperm counts to drop’ as men become ‘feminized’
Crony capitalization of “big ag” complicit? After all, the Communist Manifesto does stipulate the merging of industry and agriculture.

“Female sex hormone is ‘fueling male obesity epidemic and causing sperm counts to drop”

Fat and feminized. That describes so many men today.

Ive been reading about the estrogen threat for years, but this is the first thing ive seen about it in nearly a decade. Everything from strokes to benign prostrate enlargement in males has been laid at the feet of an estrogen overload in adult males

Thank you.

It’s all that soy in our diets!

Soy contains lots and lots of estrogen.

Has anyone examined the possibility that our drinking water has been contaminated by females on oral contraceptives? The massive doses of exogenous hormones are secreted in their urine, and I do not believe waste water treatment facilities are able to remove all of it.

Compounds found in some plastic items, including drain pipes, and soy food products can mimic the effects of estrogen, scientists said.

Aaaaaaaaaand yet another instance of looking for fleas while ignoring elephants. How about the tens of thousands of pounds of female hormones flushed down the sewer from "birth-control-pill"-laden waste water (which sewage plants aren't designed to filter out)?

I, for one, don’t believe for a minute that American men are becoming ‘feminized’ and when I read this sort of thing I just want to cry.

Sheesh, this is bad news. I better go buy a bigger, badder, louder truck to compensate. And some more guns.

The article mentions tofu as a carrier. I guess I should minimize intake. I think I can do that.

Tofu is soybean curd. Some soybean products can mimic female hormones. Liberal girly-men tend to consume mass quantities of tofu.

Connect the dots.

Last time somebody told me I was "feminized", I hit them over the head with my purse.

Taught that person a lesson.

More likely all of the female hormones being excreted into our water supplies by women on birth control pills. Water treatment systems do a very poor job of removing them.

I also have a suspicion, which probably goes to the contrary of what most Freepers believe, but I suspect that these environmental estrogens are also making some people turn out gay.

Its a real shame, both sides of the issue are positioned such that, this idea is likely never to be studied.

The problem is effectively removing ethinyl estradiol can be quite costly. Governmental estimates put the cost of upgrading about 1,360 wastewater treatment plants across England and Wales so they can comply with a proposed limit at between $41 billion and $47 billion (€32 billion and €37 billion), according to Richard Owen, a professor at the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom.

“The big question is, ‘Are we willing to pay this as a society?’” Owen told LiveScience. “Or, alternatively, ‘would we prefer to live with the environmental impact?’”

In their Nature commentary, Owen and Susan Jobling, an ecotoxicologist at the University of Brunel, write that more public debate is need on the proposed regulation. [7 Surprising Facts About the Pill]

They intended to draw attention to this environmental dilemma, not to suggest that women should not have access to birth control, Owen told LiveScience.

In the environment

EE2, a synthetic hormone, is only one of a cocktail of natural and synthetic hormones that humans excrete into wastewater, including other estrogens. EE2 has a potent biological effect at low levels.

“Animals are exquisitely sensitive to it,” Jobling told LiveScience.

The body of a fish or a frog reacts to EE2 as if it were a natural estrogen, “demasculinizing” male animals and creating a condition called intersex that interferes with an animal’s ability to reproduce, Jobling said. Intersex males often produce eggs in their testes.

It’s not yet clear if levels of EE2 found in waterways affect mammals’ reproductive cycle, she said.
