Lately, reading news links from Free Republic is getting insufferable. It seems that 95 percent of the news sources are mined with scripts and the like that want access to your computer or run time consuming ads.
Trying to figure out the security settings for IE browser has become a real challenge. I think I need to hire a full time IT expert just top read the news.
Does anyone know of a web source that can help me get the best settings to stop the sneaks but yet still allow me ample access to these sites?
AdBlock Plus. I swear by it. Only takes a few seconds to instal and works like a charm. (You’re going to love it.)
It’s time to thgrow dwn the gtguntlet on confusding posts.
It is not Free Republic, your computer is infected.
Firefox with AdBlockPlus and NoScript addons should fix you right up.
My problem, too. No fault of the great FR. But it doesn’t advance people’s knowledge to be driven crazy by pop ups and audio ambushes.
Chrome with adblock.
No, just lose Internet Explorer and use Google Chrome. No ads at all. you can even import your old bookmarks/favorites. The only bug is there’s no home button (by default), until you go into the settings and enable it.
The Gguntlet of reading news on Free Republic

Some news sites have a “print version” without all the ads
We should use it more often.
I say make them run the gtguntlet.
Two lines of freepers armed with beebers set to stune.
Download the Ghostery plug-in for your browser. Block everything it tracks and your problems are solved. You won’t have any script issues because it will all be blocked before it can fire off the script. It is fascinating to also watch how many things are tracking you by pausing Ghostery blocking the trackers, widgets, and analytics and ads. I have seen up to 30 trackers on web pages before. Also, you get a nice speed boost by shutting all of that garbage down.
Put me on the list endorsing a good ad blocking option (such as AdBlock). Other than that, your best option is to see what else FR regulars recommend (such as a NoScript option). You won’t in general get a good website that stays current on the best strategy, and no one strategy will continue to work. The best you can do is update your approach once or twice a year to block most of the garbage.
IE is the problem.
Use PaleMoon
i also use adblock with no-script on firefox (ok palemoon but same thing)
Try a different browser.
Never seen a single ad or pop-up or oddly underlined text on FR.
It’s you, man. Not FR.
LoL
I also use Pale Moon. *Love* it.
Firefox is pure evil. They (the Mozilla Firefox organization) not only support the sodomite agenda but they have never taken a pro-life, pro-gun stance for freedom and liberty.
