Bender Shuts Down New Haven Line
Railpace Newsmagazine ^ | August, 2014 | staff

Posted on 08/22/2014 10:46:37 AM PDT by Rodamala

On June 20 Metro-North's New Haven Line was shut down for nearly three hours as a result of a junior high student's cardboard robot having been left on an overhead bridge near the Metro-North station at Fairfield, CT. At About 5:30 a.m., a town street sweeper saw it and alerted the Fairfield police who, in turn called in MTA police and a State Police bomb squad and helicopter to seal off nearby streets and investigate; this action also caused M-NR to suspend service. It took the investigators nearly three hourse to realize that the "suspicious object" was merely a homemade model of Bender -- a cardboard figure with a clock face and comical angry eyes and grin featured on the Comedy Central Show Futurama. The student had left the figure behind by accident and did not intend any harm.

Amtrak Acela Express trains #2151 and #2153 along with Regional #141 were held in New Haven 1 hour 15 minutes, 13 minutes, and 49 minutes; Acela Express #2190 waited in Stamford for 1 hour 18 minutes, and Regional #190 and Acela Express stayed in New York for 1 hour 23 minutes and 13 minutes.

I just saw this news from June in a trade magazine that was sitting on the breakroom table at the office. Immediately thought of a certain Freeper.

Hey, it could have been the 'real' Bender's head.

You have to take these incidents seriously.

It never ceases to amaze me that, just when I think they have reached the bottom of the intelligence well, Democrats start to dig.

We're lucky that it wasn't something more serious, like a Mooninite.
