Mo'Ne Davis is making a habit of shutouts on national television.
Davis struck out the side to cap a two-hit shutout as Philadelphia's Taney Youth Baseball Association beat South Nashville, 4-0, in the opening game for both teams at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., on Friday.
Davis, who tossed a shutout as Taney secured the Mid-Atlantic title on Sunday, finished with eight strikeouts and no walks. Only two runners from South Nashville, the Southeast champs, reached base -- both on singles.
"At first I was scared and nervous because there were so many people and this was my first time in Williamsport," Davis said on ESPN after the game. "After Jared (Sprague-Lott) hit that home run, the nerves went away and I knew I had to go out there and throw strikes."
Sprague-Lott's first-inning, three-run homer provided more than enough of a cushion for Davis. Taney's other run was scored on a sac fly by Davis in the sixth inning.
"It always feels good to have a couple runs on the board in the first inning," Davis said. "You feel more safe that way."
Davis, one of two female players at this year's LLWS, has become the star of this year's tournament, but she joked she knows how to handle the attention.
"I can always say 'no' (to news media requests)," Davis siad. "That's my special weapon for the media."

I'm on board. Seems like a great kid.
So all the LLWS news is going to be about 2 girls. great.
Just like NASCAR is all Danica and golf is all Tiger and NFL is all Manziel/Michael Sam
The press is so annoying.
I hear you. You will hear a LOT about this girl in the next few days. In this case though, some of it will be warranted.
How does one pronounce her first name?
Mo’ne?
WTF? — “WTF” wasn’t available?
Moe-Nay
Thanks. I figured that, but couldn’t be sure.
Good for her.
.
Money? lol
6 innings, 2 hits, no walks and what, 7 Ks? Dominant performance by this young lady.
Maybe the Rangers can sign him.
Oops, her.
Amen, brother.
To paraphrase, “The press is an ass.”
Nice, modest, talented kid - Go Taney........
