Thieves attempt carjacking, but cant get away in a stick shift
SEATTLE A 70 year old woman is stopped by three young men with a gun right outside her Seattle home. They got her keys, but they didnt get away with her car. Thats because when the would-be thieves got in Nancy Fredricksons car, they discovered it was a stick shift. None of them knew how to drive a manual, so they ended up ditching the car and running away.
Nancy Fredrickson had just returned home yesterday afternoon, after buying some things at a garage sale. She was getting her purchases out of her trunk three young men approached her and told her they wanted her car keys. She says at first she thought it was a joke.
But he said again I want your car keys, she says. Thats when I saw the gun.
Fredrickson threw her keys on the ground. Even though shes got a black belt in karate, she says she was trained on when to fight and when not to. As a 70 year old woman, she knew she didnt stand a chance against a gun.
Im glad I didnt panic, I was proud of myself.
It was the thieves who panicked, when they got into the KIA and discovered it was a stick shift.
I could hear them trying. They put the keys in, they turned the lock, but they couldnt figure out how to get it started.
The three men gave up and took off running through a nearby parking lot. They were caught on surveillance video, but police havent been able to identify or catch them yet.

Hell, with the new cars with cams just to park.....they’ll be dependant on them, too. Give me the basics any day!
Well ... the photo isn’t really a manual stick shift, just an automatic wannabe.
"I can't move the other car, it's a stick shift."
I moved the car to then access mine. The valet did not get a tip.
Car thieves I understand, but a valet? He was only 18 or 19 so maybe that excuses it somewhat.
A 12 year old boy stole a school bus in Panama City today. He drove it all over the county, damaged it and stole stuff from it.
The cops or whoever the spokesman was indicated they are going to throw the book at him despite his age.
I can remember, back in the day, when I first tried to drive an automatic.
Almost go me killed ... when I wanted to slow down at an intersection for the first time, I tried to push the clutch (brake) all the way in and all the cars following suddenly were faced with a stopped vehicle.
LOL! We all survived with no damage other than my ego and having to put up with the ridicule of all those behind me.
Nope. I had some minor damage done to my car in Baltimore the first year we lived there. We had the cops out to take a report, and he assured me my 1996 Honda Civic would NEVER be stolen because it was a stick. I didn’t bother to even lock it after that, and no one ever touched it.
The base Kia Soul comes with a 6-speed stick shift. Friend of mine just got one. That photo is from the higher end version. The 20-year-old web editor probably thinks a stick shift is the kind where you can manually shift the automatic.
Just finished a week driving the family beater while my truck was in the shop. Didn’t worry about locking it since the stick shift was the anti-theft device.
People are not going to like this:
I heard HUMVEES are AUTOMATIC because a ton of enlisted people are “inner-city” and commonly cannot drive sticks.
Is it true that HUMVEES are automatic..??!?!
>_<
Maybe just SOME?
Okay so you decide your going to steal a car, and carjacking is for some reason your best option, after all you have a gun you might as well use it...and then you pick a KIA to steal.
REALLY!
Yes, Humvees are automatics.
How is that pic a stick shift?
Morons!
Maybe the instruction manual was written in cursive.
A 70-year-old woman has a stick shift? Bravo! I have driven sticks most of my life.
I mean manual drive?
LOL! Love to hear from a kindred sprite.
