LeBron James will exercise the early termination option in his contract with the Miami Heat, becoming an unrestricted free agent, his agent told ESPN's Chris Broussard. It doesn't necessarily mean that he's leaving Miami.
By opting out, he can sign a new five-year maximum contract with the Heat. If he left Miami, he could only get a four-year deal with a slightly lower annual salary. The difference between staying and leaving is $33 million.

You don't have to post if you don't care.
Carmelo Anthony did the same for the New York Knicks two days ago.
Once Sterling is gone...the Clippers?
Someone was willing to pony up $2 BILLION for that team.
Why should I care? Just kidding.
Please don’t let him come to OKC!
He would look good in Celtic Green, but I’d still hate him.
The Thunder are one player away from a championship!
My guess is Wade and Bosh will also opt out, and the Big Three will restructure their contracts to stay in Miami and bring another star player and some decent backups. I really don’t see LBJ leaving Miami.
There’s no “LeBron” in “Team”
LaYawn.
Yeah, his name is James Harden.
Hated to see him go. He can't be happy in Houston. Except for the millions he makes.
RE: Yeah, his name is James Harden.
He WAS in OKC. Won 6th man of the year there too.
They traded him to Houston, where he currently plays with Dwight Howard and Jeremy Lin.
Steve Ballmer is very happy.
My prediction: No team with Anthony on their team will ever win a championship. He is poison.
I think James will sign a new, lower salary contract like what Tim Duncan did in San Antonio in order to open up salary cap space to bring in younger, experienced players to bolster the Miami Heat bench.
I think he’ll re-sign with Miami, go to one of the L.A. teams, or go to NY. He’s a big fish and I think he wants to be in a big pond. I don’t think Cleveland or Houston are big enough for him. JMHO.
“I think hell re-sign with Miami, go to one of the L.A. teams”
If it’s the Lakers the league will likely put the kibosh on it.
This is the most likely scenario, imho.
LeBron won’t be coming to the Lakers, unless pigs are seeing flying..if he ever did consider it, the NBA would veto it, like they vetoed the deal that screwed us out of CP3
