Welcome celebration for POW Bowe Bergdahl CANCELLED ,Army commander calls a 'monstrous profanity'

A public welcome home celebration featuring Grammy-winning singer Carole King in honor of freed POW Bowe Bergdahl in the tiny town of Hailey, Idaho was abruptly cancelled today.

The official reason given was a concern for public safety, but MailOnline has learned that it was not the only reason the party was scrubbed.

Today's decision follows a row that erupted in Hailey between Mayor Fritz Haemmerle and US Army Platoon Commander Jonathan Kennedy, who lives in Hailey.

And Kennedy wasn't the only towns person who voiced disapproval of a celebration for the soldier under fire.

Mayor Haemmerle wanted to throw a welcome home party for Bergdahl, who has been released after five years as a Taliban hostage.

But since claims of Bergdahl’s alleged desertion in Afghanistan and the political fallout surrounding his return, the mayor’s office has been inundated with calls and emails in opposition to the plans.

The Army tank platoon commander weighed in and said a public ceremony to celebrate Bergdahl’s return would be a ‘monstrous profanity’.

In an email to Mayor Haemmerle - seen by MailOnline - former US Army platoon leader Jonathan Kennedy said: ‘If Individual members of the community wish to hold sedate, private celebrations to commemorate Bowe Bergdahl's homecoming, they are of course free and welcome to do so.

He’ll come out as gay and everything will be fine.
Target and General Mills will sponsor the parade.
He’ll jump Ellen’s couch and be on Dancing with the Stars.
After that he’ll run for US Senator for Massachusetts and win after tossing his medals over the White House fence.

Good on this Platoon Leader!

Just some general info about Bergdalh’s home town.

Hailey and the Valley running up to Sun Valley there are the only majority liberal area of Idaho. Most of the people there do not have a clue about what really went on with Bergdalh...and a lot of the liberals there share the anti-American military sentiments of Bergdahl’s father and that Bergdalh himself developed.

Bergdahl was a clear deserter, and American lives were lost searching for him in the first months after he went AWOL. IMHO, he was probably an enemy collaborator, and I believe his father encouraged him to become one when he told him to obery his conscience and seek men of like mind to stand with. After that email, Bergdahl did precisely that.
It is a travesty and it is disgusting.

I believe Obama thought there would be some kind of euphoria over a US soldier released...not matter the circumstances or cost. I also believe he calculated to have this story get the VA scandal off the front page.

Now it too is blowing up in his face, as well it should.

Finally, I believe that Obama did a three way deal for Bergdhal’s relese. The Taliban itself was not holding Bergdahl. He was under the control of the Haqqanis. They always want a ransom...money...and lots of it for their hostages. I believe if someone digs deep, they will find that not only were the Taliban given their top commanders...all of whom are bloodthirsty killers of Americans and innocents...but that the Haqqanis got a cash payoff too.

If this is so, Obama himself and his administration are guilty of providing financial material aid to terrorists...as well as abjectly violating the law over the release of the five GITMO prisoners.

An Artcile 32 needs to be held on Bergdahl and get the mountains of evidence sworn in and on the record. Then they need to convene a Court Martial for his desertion...in which case he should spend the next 20 years in Leavenworth. If they find he also collaborated, he should be executed.

Having said all of that...and knowing that the majority of Idahoans feel as I do...I do not know anyone who would go over to Hailey and try to physically stop or disrupt their parade. That’s not where the treason and the problem lies. They are just a bunch of uninformed and misguided people, being wagged by the dog.

I believe the town politicians have figured out that this would be a bad thing...for the image of the twon, and for them politically...so they are backing away from it..

I wouldn’t be surprised if that and more took place.

>>Carole King is still alive?<<

She’s only 70.

The interesting thing is she was/is primarily a songwriter, not a singer. The Tapestry album was sort of a lark.

Thanks for the background. I’m familiar with those liberal enclaves where the the local politicos are pushed into taking stands that most natives find appalling.

The harder Obama tries to put distance between himself and his administration the more he steps in crap.

'monstrous profanity'

The GOP should hire this guy as a consultant. Liberals use this kind of rhetoric to attack the GOP over the most mundane issues.

US Army Platoon Commander Jonathan Kennedy

So does Kennedy have a rank? I don't think Platoon commander is a rank. Is/was he a Lieutenant? It would be nice to address him as such.

Thank you for that synopsis. It’s disconcerting that such uninformed and misguided people are voters. I have to wonder if they understand the shame this situation has brought upon them as a community, or if they’re just fat, dumb and happy in their ignorance. Surely they couldn’t have known about his desertion history when they celebrated him every year.

Hate her politics. Terrific album. And some great teenybopper songs from the 60’s.

The problem with a desertion charge as opposed to AWOL is you have to prove that he “never intended to return”. Proving AWOL and collboration are somewhat easier cases. The whole trade thing stinks and the cya info that has been officially released doesn’t provide any deodorant.
