I'm sure there's no intention of scaremongering here. And I realize that handing our lives over to technology is something we do on planes, in trains, and every time we attempt to express ourselves in public.
We are an oddly trusting species.
Somehow, though, there seems a certain joy in controlling one's own destiny behind a steering wheel. When there's no wheel at all, we're at the mercy of someone else's dream.
This may have disturbing consequences.

I did that once. I was doing 50. Kitty darted across the road. Almost made it. Must have run over kitty’s head cause the car jumped. Almost lost control.

Imagine the insanity of this planet with Flying cars. The citizens of the 50's
are not the same as todays nuts. Back then responsibility was a badge of honor.

Nothing to do when they dart out. Had it happen to me once too. Broke may heart. Pulled over and doubled back but traffic was too heavy for me to retrieve it and take it home.

No you don't! You hand your lives over to a Juggernaut of engineers, bureaucrats and regulators who control and entire system designed to maximize safety while transporting people. You also trust a highly trained individual who has legal responsibility to operate the technology safely. Compare that to what some wizbang eggheads thought up which has not be checked, vetted or certified by any independent body.... those are hardly fair comparisons.

This morning, I was driving down a hill on my way to work, and a rabbit crossed in front of me.
Just missed him by a hare.

I agree. We live in a time when nutcases are protected species and responsible people are considered rubes and losers.

Why do they do that? I used to watch our family cat hide in the bushes across the street, wait for a car to come, then try to time his sprint to the narrowest of escapes.
He always made it. But why?

If a driverless car “responds” to other vehicles on the road, can one driver “scare” the car into driving into/cutting off another car?
Think of road rage/trolling/robbery situations.
