Why pilot a plane with your hands and feet when you can do it with your brain? Thought-controlled flight could be arriving soon, according to the EU-funded BrainFlight project.
A team of scientists from the Institute for Flight System Dynamics and the Berlin Institute of Technology says it has translated brain impulses into control commands, enabling pilots in a plane simulator to achieve a range of remarkably precise maneuvers without touching the controls or pedals.
Wearing a cap with lots of cables attached, pilots in the simulator were able to land a plane simply by looking at the screen and moving the control stick with their thoughts, correcting the planes position repeatedly until it landed.

while answering a stream of questions from crew and radio? that i’d have to see.
Holy Firefox, Batman, didn’t Clint already do this?
Skynet won’t like the competition.
Just like cars and drones, humans are going to be gradually eased out of the loop. How fast is anyone’s guess, but computers with sensors are going to outpace pilots and drivers, so the humans in the works will only gum up the lanes.
DK
and what happens when a pilot starts daydreaming?
Just imagine a world where 1 million unemployed Palestinians are hooked up to computers run by hackers, and they are all thinking about taking down Israeli, American, and European planes all over the world. It sounds like a bad sic-fi story.
The Russians had this years ago, and Clint Eastwood went over there and stole one, I saw him do it on the big screen.
Or if they are high or drunk or distracted by something? Or deliberately suicidal or out to do terrorism?
Tasteless, but:

Vimana flew at “the speed of the pilots thought”

Not tasteless. This is a major concern with any technological breakthrough. It will lead to regulation, control and more likely, banning in the hands of the public.
Hey Janey... how are you?
“Tower, I am approaching runway 11 and -— SQUIRREL!!!!”
Don’t know about day dreaming but I know that I’ve taken-off and landed a full-sized jetliner several times in my sleep. The dreams have been so vivid that I recall adjusting the trim wheel on approach, closing the throttles and activating the reverse thrust switch with my index finger on touchdown.
I have never flown a large plane and my training days in the Cessna are 36 years past. Guess I’ve been watching too many YouTube videos of cockpit landings of 747s and the like. Freaky !
So if all that is required is to just sit there and wish yourself to land, what happens when the weather wishes your aircraft to do otherwise?
You have a great point. That kind of single minded focus is nearly impossible to maintain for extended periods of time. Cool sci-fi tech but I think this will have the potential for some costly mishaps.
Before it’s over I think they will totally bypass Foxfire and move directly to Skynet. Skynet has no conscience therefore would not hesitate to kill the enemies of the state, like the Ta Party, old people, people that understand the constitution, veterans, whites and Asians, people not driving hybrids, and the most evil of them all, Sarah Palin and Ted Cruz.
If thought control is the wave of the future, then spam and hack attacks will focus on distracting them.
Humans have poor attention management over long periods of time. And the best way to distract the mostly male pilots would then be a hack attack popping up porn images, if not fake targets.
Acrobatic plane flew into the ground during air show performance. Awaiting news on the pilot. It doesn't look good.
Prayers offered up.
I'm at The Blaze right now checking up on the story.
