If you listen to terrestrial radio, and live in the San Francisco Bay Area, north of San Jose, you most likely have heard of KSFO AM. Last weekend, the managers of that radio station decided to fire weekend talk host Barbara Simpson suddenly and for most listeners shocklingly. Barbara was affiliated with that station for over nineteen years, since it's inception as a conservative leaning radio station. This was a few years after Rush Limbaugh show everyone that conservatives could appeal to a large portion of the population.
Some local blogs, such as richlieberman 415media have been flooded with posters going through various stages of blame, grief and disbelief. No one has heard anything from her since last Saturday, although her facebook page remains up. Why do I bring this up to those who have never heard of either Barbara or KSFO? Because this type of brutal, inglorious ending to a steller career is what is very possible these days in talk radio. The management wants talkers to use a PPM system, a pinging type system that counts listeners. It has largely replaced the older methods which were simliar to the Nielsen practice.
Today's managers also expect their talkers to respond to tweets, texts, and facebook likes. All the while remaining in compatibility with commercial breaks or earpiece whisperings from the engineer. I hope this is temporary, and Barbara finds a new spot soon. The bigger issue though is there are a lot of us who are over the select demo, 55 years or older. I can only hope someone finds a way to cater to out needs in merchandise and services without throwing talented people over the side like an old apple core.
KSFO has been especially hit since the Citadel days, when CEO Farid Suleman fired the late Lee Rodgers because Rodgers was getting too pointed in his commentary regarding CAIR, Islamic Jihad, and Muslims.

Ksfo is no longer on my listen list. After the way they treated Melanie Morgan and Lee Rodgers, the station owners/managers deserve the boot.
Why?

Hopefully another station will snatch her up soon.

Is this the Babe in the Bunker that I used to listen to when living in the Bay Area??? She was just a person of pure Common Sense.
She sought the truth, did her homework, and was opinionated—and was able to state her opinion in concise easy way to comprehend. She was never politically correct (using Marxist talking points, when I listened).
She is “dangerous”. Can’t have the Truth, today when people can articulate the points and use Reason and examples....They can’t be allowed to burst the bubble of perceptions, that the Left has worked so hard to construct.
Truth has a ring to it. Got to shut Christians up-—those who believe in Truth and Reason and can make cogent points.
is she the “babe in the bunker?”
Why what? Why did she get fired? If that was your question, I think it was mainly because she wanted to produce the show in her way, as she had done for almost twenty years. Barbara used to be an Anchorwoman on TV. She knows the media backwards and forwards, but still enjoyed it. She is a superb interviewer. She has often said, “I don’t like shows with a split screen mentality; one side screaming and hollering at the other side doing the same thing. In many ways, Barbara is the Thinking Conservative’s Conservative WITHOUT being boring in any way. Not an easy task.
ha! i just asked that same question... i say, yes—she is the babe in the bunker... loved listening to here when i lived in the Bay Area...
That piece - why she was fired, even speculatively - was critical for understanding the vanity.
Yes, Barbara is the Babe in the Bunker. By far the best interviewer I’ve heard on the radio, anywhere. This is outrageous!
Some postings of hers

More leftist “War on Women”.
Thanks for the postings, although I think she submitted that last article before being ousted. Still it was good to see some of her writings. Barbara was one of the few well known talkers or contributing writers to discuss the horror of learning about that Oregon hospital that was using the remains of aborted babies in order to light up there hallways. It’s a topic no one I know wants to think about, but we need to ponder it a little bit. How did this come to be in the first place? Did those who made the decision to use this type of fuel have a hidden agenda? It has to be made known so that we don’t repeat the mistake.
Bummer, I liked the babe in the bunker. The only good host left is Levin.
Thanks for posting. I noticed Barbara’s absence last weekend. KSFO is committing professional suicide. Looking forward to word from Barbara on where she lands!
