Because the liberals have decided it is courageous to declare yourself a homosexual. so he gets an award for this alleged courage, in a media/entertainment environment which honors homosexuality.

When political correctness is confused with courage, true courage is either ignored or derided.

Cultural Marxists will forever push the “victim” meme in order to control the minds and actions of Godless creatures. Victimology along with a threat of social/professional "ostracization" if you openly defy the reason for why the award was given. In this case, male-on-male buggery.

You are right it took no courage in the normal sense of the word. If he had “come out” 25 years ago that may have been different.
I have always felt this was a ploy by his agent to make an also ran player a higher draft pick. Some pundits feel like he does not even deserve to be drafted at all.
Also Sam getting “awards” will make him more marketable for other promotions etc. thus making him a more valuable property for the agent.
