What if you were forced to register in order to buy groceries? And what if, through that registration, the food you bought could be tracked and quantities could be limited?
Thats exactly the plan in Venezuela right now. The AP reports that in an effort to crack down on hoarding that ID cards will be issued to families. These will have to be presented before foodstuffs can be purchased.

Are they going to make weekly visits to ensure that you "eat your peas"?

I assume Venezuelans are not allowed to own firearms.
so in that case, that government plan will work.

Saw a picture posted on Twitter of the Venezuelan Natl Guard “inspecting” shopping carts to make sure they’re not violating any rules.
Anyway, my first thought on seeing that, was the left in this country would love to post cops at the exits of grocery stores to “inspect” your cart for food you “shouldn’t be eating.” Is this so crazy to think it may not ever happen?

Asparagus for supper came straight out of the garden. Hard to control that in a nation this large.

Actually, they may have to abandon this plan as not communist enough.
Each person is gettin the same amount which is very different from each according to their ability to each according to their needs.
Some people need to eat a lot more than others to get by due to their metabolism.

And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn't love freedom enough. And even more we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.

“Asparagus for supper came straight out of the garden. Hard to control that in a nation this large.”
You are wrong. In most cities, they are using satellite photos to see if you have made any “improvements” to your house which will get you an immediate tax increase and possibly fines for not getting the appropriate permits.
They can easily spot a vegetable garden. And with the new low cost drones, they will definitely spot your vegetable garden and will distribute it for all.
But rest assured, it will be for the common good.

In the old days, you could possible hide in the hills and wait out the expiration of an uncontrolled govt.
I think this prepping may be nonsense.
THEY WILL FIND YOU. THEY WILL TAKE YOUR STUFF. AND IT WILL BE THE FULL FORCE OF THE GOVT.
Preppers may want to think about prepping for a fight rather than prepping to wait it out.
I doubt you can even grow a garden in a buried basement as they monitor your electric usage and use infrared sensors to measure your house’s heat signature.
