Nikon has probably had just about enough when it comes to the D600 and its sensor dust/oil issues. It started with user complaints, evolved to class action lawsuits from a number of different sources, and has now escalated to a full-on order by the Chinese government to stop D600 sales in China after a state-run television show featured a scathing exposé about the issue.

In my experience new cameras seem to attract more dust early on than they will after some use but oil on the sensor is a big problem.

Would have been nice if this had happened when Samsung got thousands of complaints on their flat screen TVs when their monitors went out right after the warranty period expired and wouldn’t offer to fix them unless you paid them an arm and leg. I bought two of them that did this (like an idiot). Look ‘em up. There’s thousand of reports online about them. I don’t buy Samsung anything to this day.
shame on them for still selling it....Or are they? Guess they found a dumping ground. I wouldn’t think there are any new D600s left.

Dear Nikon:
I exhausted my life savings at the age of 12 to move from the Olympus to Nikon systems.
I shot my first wedding at 14.
I own more A and E lenses than I can count.
My first love is the F3.
I am more loyal to Nikon, and have sold more Nikons, than anyone I have ever met.
When I moved to DSLR I made the mistake of buying a Nikon product - the D5100 - a consummate piece of crap. (My D90 is okay...)
I took it to be repaired for the locked shutter, battery door, etc. My repair guy was kind enough to tell me that after I fixed the body, I'd be $500.00 poorer and still have a piece of crap.
Nikon, if anyone at your firm still cares about loyal customers, I am one, or was one. But I am on the edge. The FE was a great camera... So was the FM and FM2. You made a name for yourself with cheaper cameras that were excellent. What will you do, where is your brand now that you are selling crap?

I have been using Nikons my entire adult lifetime. I have a D7000 on the bookcase behind me, and the D600 in the bedroom. I also have a film Nikon. I got the D600 the first week it was on sale. It’s a superb camera which Nikon really got right and I have experienced no problems with dust or oil.

I’m a fan of the Sony NEX-7 (half frame), because all I use it for it for is traveling, night photography and family.
Since the better cell phones can take pretty good snapshots (and share them right away), I need to use the NEX-7 in low light, narrow depth of field situations to make exceptional images.

I have a Nikon F. No light meter (light meters are for wimps). Made out of solid steel (or something damn close), uses film (remember film?), and doubles as an anvil.

I like my aging Sony A200 so much that I picked up a low actuation, almost new copy from KEH because I didn't want to be caught without anything to hang my old Minolta Maxxum glass on. The first one is still going strong, I'd rather grab another camera than change lenses so often anyway.
The first one has been carried so much that the matte finish has glossy finger marks worn in to it.

I have a Spotmatic still working. I got into Sony because I had some Maxxum lenses and got a great deal and I’ve never regretted it.
