An 84-year-old nun was sentenced to nearly three years in prison for breaking into a US nuclear weapons complex and defacing a bunker holding bomb-grade uranium, a demonstration that exposed serious security flaws.
Two other activists who broke into the facility with Megan Rice were sentenced to more than five years in prison yesterday, in part because they had much longer criminal histories of mostly non-violent civil disobedience...
...On July 28, 2012, the three activists cut through three fences before reaching a 548 million dollar (£328 million) storage bunker...
...They hung banners, strung crime-scene tape and hammered off a small chunk of the fortress-like Highly Enriched Uranium Materials Facility inside the most secure part of complex...
...When security finally arrived, guards found the three activists singing and offering to break bread with them. The protesters reportedly also offered to share a Bible, candles and white roses with the guards...

Huh?!? Nuke protestors? The old gals must still think it’s 1984....
A lot to suffer for a symbolic act, and they didn’t even have to break into the bunker to mount a protest if they felt there was still a danger.
Today the hottest head in a nuclear feud probably wouldn’t be Russia, or even China. It might sadly be in Washington.
Gimmee a pull would'ya sisters ... ?
What they want you to picture is an elderly woman suffering under the boot of an oppressive government.
She’s the idiot who chose to play the role of martyr now she can live out the rest of her days in prison.
An activist 84 year-old nun, eh? Sounds kinda like a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
That’s the same way I see it.
She can now lead a cloistered life in solitary.
Singing "Kumbaya"...
Like it will make a difference to her (actually, she’ll get to evangelize the others in a ladies’ jail).
Fault her for an unbalanced Christian goal, she does believe.
An 84 year old nun can break in and get to a bunker containing nuclear grade uranium.....WTF. Was somebody asleep at the wheel or has Obama hired TSA workers to guard the nuclear hen house?
How about the sniper who took out a major link in the power grid in an hours long assault on transformers in CA last year, never to be apprehended? Our security systems are a joke.
She should be dead,
She was in a shoot on sight area
The place she broke into was
The weapons grade uranium storage facility
Profound mayhem could have occurred
If she had other intent than to spray paint the walls
The 2 guys she was with had long arrest records
Even she was surprised that their little party of three protesters could get that close.
When I read the article I was amazed that it took 2 hours for security to arrive.
As Glenn Reynolds would say, “We are in the very best of hands.”

The place should have been guarded by TSA!
In the Michigan legislature.
Senate Bill 757: Allow deadly force to defend nuclear plants
Introduced by Sen. John Proos, IV (R) on February 11, 2014, to explicitly allow an officer providing security at a nuclear generating plant to use deadly force if he or she honestly and reasonably believes (it) is necessary to prevent a person from breaking in with the intent to inflict harm, engage in radiological sabotage or steal nuclear material.
Really upset the security let this happen,. She should have been shot the minute she crossed the fence.
You don’t allow intruders to do this.
