The Missouri community has shown overwhelming support for Michael Sam since the Tigers' football star announced that he was gay earlier this month. On Saturday a group of students united to drown out the protest efforts of the Westboro Baptist Church.
The group was in town for the Tigers' home basketball game against Tennessee, protesting Missouri's support of Sam outside Mizzou Arena. Students blocked the Westboro Baptist protesters from view with a human wall, turned their backs and sang the alma mater until the group dispersed before tip off.

Death penalty for fags?
I do realize the Old Testament prohibition on homosexuality. But, death penalty? Who doesn’t the Westboro gang NOT hate? They hate fags, our troops, who else and what else?
I find it hard, as a Christian, to reconcile their stances with the teachings of Christ.
I just don’t get it.
Yea I know this one is a catch 22. Which side do you hate worse? It actually shocks me they are not at a funeral of some innocent soldier.
Yes these people are standing up for the family and traditional marriage but at the same time they stamp on the American flag and other nasty stuff. Plus God does not “hate fags” God loves all his children but God wants them to turn from sin. That is where these people are very flawed.
That is what I was taught. Depise the sin but love and care for the sinner. God and Christ teach us to go forth and spread the Word that sinners turn from sin.
Westboros are hypocrites. They were Al Gore supporters at one time. I don’t see them protesting Gore, a.k.a Sex Poodle.

Westboro Baptist gives even other hate groups a bad name.
I honestly don't think they even believe the stuff they peddle. I think they're attention whores who know that homos are the most beloved and lionized minority at present, and by protesting them they may provoke a response which will engender a huge payout in civil litigation.
I tend to think they're more mercenary than missionary in their *contempt* of sin.
Well, yeh. And honestly, I wouldn’t care if they were sincere. It’s their tactics I despise. If I expect gays to keep their opinions and choices to themselves, I expect Pentecostal groups to do the same.

I'll agree with you on the attention whore part but disagree with you on the first part. I think Westboro truly, honestly, sincerely believes everything they say. Including their "God hates dead soldiers" claims.

Well as a single female with a long time boyfriend who happens to have been married before, I doubt you would agree with what I have to say on that.
