I think it will be in the 50s after sunset. Chilly for us (unused to cold) but I am so excited! And other hockey loving freepers going tonight??
This is the FIRST outdoor pro hockey game west of the Rockies. Gonna be a fun experience.

By a strange stroke of good fortune (or bad luck, LOL), I’ll be sitting at Yankee Stadium tomorrow watching my Devils take on their cross-river rivals in New York. The temperature at opening faceoff is supposed to be 14 degrees, but at least there’s no snow in the forecast for tomorrow!

It's wild..30 games remaining..12 teams..separated by 12 points in the middle of the pack..for 5 playoff spots..

Tie breakers are something like games vs that opponent, games won in OT/SO and then goals for...
The irony is that New Jersey is poorly constructed to play in the regular season, but if they get into the playoffs they are the kind of team that nobody will want to face. They don't have much top-end talent, but their roster is so deep that they've got 2-3 defensemen and 3-4 forwards who are healthy scratches or playing in the minors but would probably be playing regularly on most other NHL teams.
School finally let out.
Anticipation that had been building all day was finally realized in the task that lie ahead. The planning was on the fly and we knew we might be pushing things, but our desire was enough.
It’s was cold and windy for this early in the year and we knew that was perfect. Standing on the bank, looking out at the ice that was calling us to play. The apprehension of our crew needed a leader to show the way. Someone brave and a little crazy. I had to jump about 3 feet from the shore since the ice had not yet taken hold. Looking back to the shore our crew who were eager for their leap waited for me to test the ice. Standing on thin ice about 5 or 6 feet off shore I began the test, jumping up and down pounding the ice in a calculated attempt to break through, or at least find some cracks to determine its thickness. Three inches thick at 6 feet out. Testing again at 8 to 10 feet out, no more cracks.
Lets play !!!!
I love the winter classic, but adding 5 more out door games doesn’t make it 5 times as awesome.

The setup of the hockey rink at dodger stadium is odd. It looks like most fans will be at the ends of the rink. All of this got me curious at to how thick is the ice on a hockey rink surface and it appears the answer is 3/4 inch. I would have thought it would be more than that especially if there is some melting.

I don’t think they originally planned to do this many. I thought they overloaded the schedule this season to make up for the loss of last year’s games due to the lockout.
It is their most popular regular season game, actually I think it usually gets better ratings than the Cup Finals which is kind of depressing. So I can see where they want more, but I wonder how much the uniqueness helps. I don’t intend to watch any of the stadium series, we’ll see what the numbers say.

77 degrees in Los Angeles at 1:30pm. It should plunge to 70 degrees by the end of the first period. Interesting conditions for maintaining the ice. The air is pretty dry so evaporation should prevent too much standing water.
For you folks in SoCal, starting time is 6:30.
