I despise musicals! I love Carrie Underwood. I sat all the way through this and shocked my wife. Carrie was good from beginning to end.

I’m sure the LATimes critic just hated it because none of the children were openly gay.

Well, there are musicals and then there are musicals.

I don’t care for either kind for the most part — but TSOM is and always has been just plain nauseating.

No matter who is in it.

I saw a little of it. I though Carrie Underwood did fine.

But hey, they DID give an openly black Austrian nun a key role... (snicker... as if!... wonder how many black nuns there really were in Austria back then...)

Yep. I'm sure the Times hoped that the remake would be more politically correct, and it wasn't. During the entire production Maria did not even once mention how much she admired FDR's New Deal.

And at the end, the family once again fled fascism instead of embracing it.

Underwood supports homosexual "marriage". Shouldn't that be good enough?

I don’t usually watch musicals either but she did a great job and has a great voice.
We both thought that this would expand her appeal to those that don’t listen to Country music.

You apparently have never seen Julie Andrews in this role…. she was and remains the quintessential Maria.

Carrie Underwood is a nice enough singer but she is no Julie Andrews. Sorry I tried to watch it because I love the musical ‘book’ but could not manage more than 20 minutes

“I love Carrie Underwood.”

I don’t. She came out for faggot marriage and lectured everyone that we’re idiots for not accepting it. Just search for this clown on FR and you’ll find the articles.

"...none of the children were openly gay."

I didn't see it, but I'd imagine the cast included plenty of black singers, right?

I agree with the critic. Her voice was good, but her acting was weak.

I watch the show. Underwood has a great voice, but can't say I care for her acting skills.

The fellow who played Captain Von Trapp really left me cold, but then he was competing with my memory as an eleven year old, who fell helplessly in love with Christopher Plummer.

I really wanted to watch the show to see how they would craft the scenes. I had a big problem with the dress Maria wore for the wedding scene. I doubt very much that they would accept that type of gown for any religious ceremony in the Catholic church in the 30's
