Dialects are funny. How and why they stick or don’t.

If black people move here from the south, they keep the accent for generations. I love the southern drawl. But white people come here, and a year or two later, their kids have already lost it. Maybe because media keeps using the southern accents to mean dumb. But only on whites. Either Southern education is unfair and only educates the blacks, or the media is raciss. Wonder which? Some of the smartest and most educated white people I’ve ever met were from the south.

And here at the beach there are still surfers speaking that Spicoli surfer accent, dude.
