They were originally bred to rescue mountaineers trapped in snow storms.
So it is perhaps no surprise this giant St Bernard also wants to help the needy, albeit of a rather different kind.
For nine-year-old Yankee has been letting dozens of stray cats cuddle up to him when he goes to sleep every night to shelter them from the cold.

Pictures are priceless. Well, not really. DM values them so much they wont let them be reposted.

Yeah that one is local for me. Funny side note is this rescue happened at a school with a teacher invloved. Once rescued by those tasked with it she announced proudly this malaprop: “it is kinda like it takes a villiage.” IT explains a lot. But otherwise a nice tail. heh. People are in a lottery now to adopt the pup.

Nine is quite elderly for a St. Bernard, i think. Right you are. My Sasha is 5 years old, and it's tough to think I have another 3 years with her (8 is the average age).
She is a born protector, especially of the children.

My friend’s Irish Wolfhounds were SO OLD when they were only nine. It was awful because the kids love them so much!

Is he keeping the kitties warm or is the kitty blanket keeping HIM warm?! ;-) Either way, they all benefit.
