SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – A woman recently released from State Prison for a previous felony is facing new charges after a half mile ride on an electric shopping cart.
Schenectady Police say they arrested 53-year-old Gwendolyn Andujar and charged her with one count each of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th-degree and Grand Larceny 4th-degree, both felonies.
According to authorities Andujar was spotted by an officer driving the $2,800 cart for several blocks from a Price Chopper early Thursday morning. The supermarket was contacted and reported the cart stolen to police.
Andujar was driving down McLellan Street before being arrested at Union Street and Ardsley Road. She was taken into custody without incident. However, police say she did not say why she stole the cart.
The Schenectady woman was released from State Prison in August after serving 8 years for Manslaughter.
Andujar was arraigned and held without bail in Schenectady County Jail on Thursday.
You can’t make this stuff up .. lol! A few years ago, a man was stopped for driving a golf cart on a local highway.
Maybe we need to look at how prisons are treating prisoners. It seems like they are resorts for the thermal slackers.
Okay, I know this is highly un-P.C. of me, but I just HATE those things. They frequently block aisles that are increasingly more difficult to navigate because of all the display and chatting shoppers, many of the operators don’t know how to drive them and are hazardous to pedestrians, and, let’s face it, a lot of the people who use these carts would be better served if they got off of them and actually burned a few calories by pushing a cart. Flame away, if you must.
No flame. Rarely is it that a disabled person is using them. Usually just lazy obese people use them.
Properly used they are great. A few years ago, after getting discharged from the hospital for total hip replacement surgery and was on crutches. One of them allowed me to go shopping with my wife and get out of the house, Also, the enable my 95 year old grandmother to accompany me for shopping trips for her when I visit her.
The point I’m making is that a electric cart is good when used by folks who need it for mobility in a store.
