Police say man had torch which attracted the fish
A Saudi man died after colliding with a pointed a fish resembling a swordfish while he was swimming in the Gulf sea, a newspaper reported on Saturday.
Police said the fish had apparently been attracted by a searchlight carried by the victim while he was swimming in a banned area on the eastern coastline of the Gulf Kingdom.
The incident took place on Thursday night and is reminiscent of the death of famous Australian wildlife expert Steve Irwin, who was killed six years ago by a stingray.
Irwin, who died at the age of 44 years, was filming a documentary in Queensland in 2006 when he came face to face with a stingray.
The fish suddenly turned and pierced him in the chest with its tail spine, in what appeared to have been a defensive response to being boxed in.
The Saudi man died as a result of severe bleeding in the neck after the fish struck him there. It seems the fish had been attracted by the searchlight, the Saudi Ajel newspaper said, quoting coast guard spokesman Colonel Khaled Al Arqoubi.
He said the victim had defied a ban on swimming at night in such areas, adding that such types of fish swim near the surface and are easily provoked by artificial light.
allah had it in for him....
It was written.
In cursive.
Anyway. He got the point.

The ocean is a dangerous place. But how does one swim while holding a torch?
I think they mean flashlight. (in British English it’s called a torch)
I think something was lost in translation. A flashlight sounds correct to me.
I use both hands when I dog paddle. I wouldn't even think of swimming at night with only one hand.
An ethnic Greek friend, whose family had lived in Egypt since the fourth century BC before moving here recently, told me of family weekend outings to beaches on the Red Sea. They would light bonfires and then grill swordfish in the embers. He said swordfish was delicious. I imagine the first Ptolemy doing likewise.

The White House issued a statement apologizing for the incident, and suggested that the fish was motivated by an NRA video depicting Norwegian trawling operations. Gays in the military will wear their uniform trousers at half mast as a show of solidarity, although they’re not sure with whom.
ha! good one.
Find it and behead the fish!!!!!
I enjoy scuba diving at night. If I see a shark, all I do is turn off my light. Can’t see him anymore.
And grill it!
Ha! Those rascally SEAL Team 6! What will they camoflage themselves as next!
(I’m on book 8 of the Vince Flynn series - this swordfish was probably Mitch Rapp in disguise...)
Oh good. Arabs prefer to go by the sword, don’t they?
‘Sheik Mohammed Muhumed Al Jabbar Mehummid Ibrahim Shasta Cola Al Jazeera’
Is that his abbreviated name?
Every name tells a story, right?
