To clarify, I posted this, but it is not by me.

It is disgraceful how adjunct professors are treated in this country. They are the real teachers in colleges and the so-called professors only teach grad students and only a few of those.

The adjunct professors are grossly under paid compared to the tenured professors who barely work at all in many cases. As long as they publish once in a while they are paid handsomely.

While adjuncts at Duquesne overwhelmingly voted to join the United Steelworkers union a year ago, Duquesne has fought unionization, claiming that it should have a religious exemption. Duquesne has claimed that the unionization of adjuncts like Margaret Mary would somehow interfere with its mission to inculcate Catholic values among its students.

Well this will come before Obama’s NLRB and they will loose so he can cheer up.

While I think that colleges grossly mistreat adjuncts it is because of the glut of PHD’s in the liberal arts. She chose her course of study on her personal interest rather than on her ability to make a living from her acquired knowledge.

It is a sad story too often told

Daniel Kovalik is senior associate general counsel of the United Steelworkers union.

The author seems to feel that making a martyr out of this woman will give meaning to her death.

Given that the dead adjunct could easily get the union lawyer on the phone I would surmise that poor deceased adjunct seems to be one of Duquesne’s union organizing activist.
